I know nothing about
this new play that Dan Radcliffe is going to be in. And, honestly, I’m really not that interested in the actors in the HP films. It’s the books that interest me most, and then the business behind the movies is interesting to me, given my vocation.
So I’ll refrain from commenting too much about the content of this play, except to say that it sounds pretty darn bizarre. An erotic fixation with horses that includes performing a sexual act while riding nude upon a horse? Um, okay. That’s, er, interesting. Don’t think I’ll be feeling bad about missing that play.
Anyway, what interests me more is that
this article lays out the anticipated timing for shooting HBP:
The play will rehearse for six weeks in London from January 3, with director Thea Sharrock taking charge, and then go straight into a series of previews from February 16. It will open to the critics with a gala first night on February 27…
Daniel will perform as Alan Strang for 16 weeks. Then it’s back to Hogwarts to prepare to film the sixth, penultimate, picture in the Harry Potter canon, The Half-Blood Prince…
After Daniel leaves on June 19, the producers will recast.
So that sounds like they expect to be back to shooting HBP by June 2007. This would be consistent with
a previous interview I read in which Steve Kloves said he began writing the HBP screenplay almost as soon as the book was released.
