Wow. I'm speechless. You captured the true nature of the Winchester relationship- misunderstanding, miscommunication, fierce loyalty, and deep love. It saddens me that think about something like this happening- but I think you're right- it would have been unlikely if some type of issue like this didn't come up, given the fairly vagrant lifestyle they lead. Violence completed or not.

You went in a brave direction- but it paid off. As ever, your stories reach in and cut me to the core with how good they are.

(not to take away from the above- but now that this is out of your system, can I please have my Dean/Cas unexpectedly taking on a cliff overlooking the ocean? First time Dean's seen the Atlantic maybe? I know it's demanding and rude- but you love me and I need a pick me up- life sucks at the mo- big time...)

More Castiel and Dean gentastic friendship than romance on account of how I suck at writing them together, and it's the Gulf not the Atlantic since it's canon that Dean was in Maryland when he was eleven, but I hope it helps? So it turned out that the Gulf was nothing like the Atlantic. Dean had seen the Atlantic before, slate grey and moody up in Maryland, cold and stony in Maine. The Gulf was warm and sweet and welcoming, bright sea green waters and lush, hot sand that got everywhere and stuck to everything ( ... )

This is lovely, but Dean had been in NOLA working on a case just previous to the pilot--that's canon, too.

Thanks. :) And you're right about him being in New Orleans and I'm actually wicked curious about that case. I'd love to see a fanfic that explored it; it seems like there's a lot of potential for intrigue there.

But you're right, I used the wrong terminology here. I was thinking less of the Mississipi gulf region and more the Florida Keys side of the house, or perhaps more like Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. I love New Orleans, but the feel of the land there is much different to me than when I go to Florida. I should have been more specific!

Oh, and to respond to the other things in your comment... I swear, miscommunication is something that cripples the Winchesters, even if you do get things like their fierce loyalty and love to go with it.

It's pretty plausible to me that someone would have tried something along these lines, just given how often they were left alone. All I can hope for is that none of them succeeded.

This is one of those stories that I'm not even sure I should have written it, but it would not leave me alone. I've had bits of it in mind for months, and then it all just poured out at once. It's one that hurt to write.

I do love you and I'm sorry about the massive life suckage. Want to get together this weekend, maybe?
