I got back from Spain on Monday and had the best ever time! I hate being stuck in rainy London :( I miss beautiful, hot, clear-skyed Calella and all it's gorgeously pervy lifeguards! I went with my family and a friend's family and really did have a perfect time, apart from being kicked out of a bar on the second night (cringe, cringe, cringe.)
Really, the only good thing about being back was seeing Inception. I saw it today and was blown away - it. was. AMAZING. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I walked out of the cinema. Leo was spectacular, as usual, but I so hope he does a slightly lighter role soon because basically all his roles since Catch Me If You Can (another of my favourite films) have been very weighty. He has a beautiful smile and should make the most of it ;)
The plot was intricate, complex, thought-provoking and original. It did exactly what films should do - it takes you to another place. So often now films are forgettable and to put it simply, crap. Films should entrance you and hold your interest the whole way through, but most importantly make you feel something. Inception does exactly that. When Ariadne learns how to control her dreams, I was curious and excited along with her. I had butterflies when Fischer's subconcious army turn on Cobb and his crew. I swooned like Ariadne when Arthur kisses her, and I was so happy when Cobb's finally reunited with his kids.
Then there's the ending. I love open-ended plots because it leaves so much food for thought and makes the film so open for discussion. My personal thoughts on it is that it was actually real, just because you hear the totem thump after the screen goes black. My other theory is is everyone except Cobb and Saito woke, but those two were left in Limbo with Cobb being skilled enough to having subconsciously built a heaven for him.
I heard there may be a sequel, and I'm so hoping there is! It was so wonderful and to be honest, I just want to see it again and see more. It reminded me alot of the Matrix in some ways, actually. For me, the highlights of the film were it's cast (Flawless. Cillian was perfect, the chemistry between Cobb and his team couldn't have been better, Ariadne/Arthur were so precious, Arthur/Eames were hilarious, and I just loved the team in general. Every actor performed well, and boy are they all good-looking), the dream scenes (Particularly the scene where when Ariadne is agitated, things begin to blow up around her and when she folds Paris into a box), my favourite being when Arthur's gliding round the hallway because I've actually had really vivid dreams doing that and the subtle comedy in between all the drama!
