Friday morning was getting the cabin back in order and the car packed for the first half of the trip back to Mom's. Hated to leave, but needed to get a start back. Made it through the construction at the Buena Vista with hardly a delay more than a regular stop light. Getting through Colorado Springs was a trial, though. Man, that was ugly. But got out of it and to a rest stop at Arriba,CO for a quick lunch. It was starting to feel like a storm was brewing.
Got back on the road and gassed up in Burlingto,CO. I started the leg to our stop in Salina, KS. Wind was picking up and Mom was noticing that the clouds were all merging into one big cloud. About halfway to Salina, a gust of wind blew the SUV around on a bridge. Thankfully, no one that near me (and that this wasn't winter.) But I was shook up for about 20 minutes. And muttered under my breath the last hour about high profile vechiles.
Pulled into the parking lot of the hotel and noticed a car that we had seen at the Arriba rest stop. Only remembered because they had two dogs & two cats in their Prius and were going to Washington DC. Apparently the hotel was pet-friendly. There were several folks checking in with dogs.
Got checked in and then to the desk clerk's suggestion when asked about BBQ. When you are voted number one BBQ in a town with only 2 BBQ joints, you don't have to try real hard. Not the worst that I have had, but it is #2.
Thankfully the hotel was pretty nice (Mom got a 2-room suite). Slept through that evening's storm. Next morning as we got our car packed before we hit the hotel's breakfast, we were greeted by a gal's pair of Golden retrievers. So I got a little doggy therapy that helped me feel much better after the drive.
