I got to the Transplant Center fairly early, but I was still paranoid over whatever doctor-dumbfuck-on-call would have for me today. All things considered, things went pretty well. It was Friday after all. I think having a nurse hanging out in my room with me and gabbing about Food Network always seems to be a good omen. She had to wear paper slippers since she was wearing socks and flip-flops underneath. : )
They decided to discontinue the prep drug Sudra-something-or-other that was spiking my blood sugar levels and gave me Prednisone instead. If my face looks fat this weekend, it's their fault, but my BS was a lot lower today, and I'll be only taking it until Wednesday. A Very Good Thing.
I saw a Diabetic Educator, who has actual comprehension and a sense of humor and knows I'm in the 99-percentile everyfuckingtime. Huzzah! I got a basic plan for basic coverage on a long-lasting insulin and how to figure out how much of the regular stuff I need to take according to how many carbs I eat. She said it quite a few times, so I'm going to believe her: "You can eat whatever you want, as long as you cover it with insulin."
*snoopy dance*
The problem I used to have with keeping a diabetic diet was the control issue. Even after I went through treatment for my eating disorder, keeping things under control was still very difficult. When I got my pancreas in '93, I calmed down quite a bit, since it was me who decided what I ate. I found a happy medium; I was eating a few chocolates without eating an entire bag at a time. I might splurge on Doritos and M&M's at Con (this is ConSuite, of course), but I'd be eating little more than salads for weeks, since I'd be sugared-out for a while.
* It's not going to be a control thing this time.
* Medicare B is going to cover my test strips, syringes, alcohol swabs, a new glucometer if I need it, and possibly an insulin pump.
* I'll get a reimbursement for the 40 bucks I shelled out last month.
* I feel incredibly better today now my BS is under 600 for a change.
It ended up being a pretty good day. : )
