So we survived the big "snowpocalypse" or "Snowmagedon" as people coined it in Seattle. Actually it was not the big snow dump that was first predicted. I only measured about 6 inches or so at the deepest. Still for Seattle, who completely shuts down in a half inch of snow, it was enough. People could not drive safely for days and although the temperatures rose pretty quickly to above freezing, it still messed us up for a while.
Just as the snow was melting and thankfully as the temperatures rose, we lost heat in our house and spent a few days in the cold. With trial and error, we found out it was the thermostat that was acting up somehow and blowing out fuses. We still do not have it working properly but at least we do not blow out the furnace fuse because of a circuit breaker the furnace guy installed to keep the fuses from blowing until we can get a replacement thermostat.
In other news, Alex, who is now almost 19 is finally ready to hopefully maybe possibly kinda sorta getting ready to learn how to drive. He only has one part of the GED test to take and red tape and Beurocrasy is taking too long so we decided to go onto the next venture in his life. His old Big Brother from Big Brothers of America, who is a car mechanic came over and he and Alex worked on Alex's car that he bought from his grandma when he was 16. My mother had saved the car for him and she had not driven it in about 5 or so years keeping it safe in her garage. Once Alex bought it, we had it towed here and there it sat under a car cover for another 3 years. We had removed the battery but I wondered if the car would run after all these years. Alex did all the work on getting his car ready replacing a broken dome light and useless windshield wipers and checking all fluids and pumping the tires full of air. With a brand new battery installed, the car seems to run fine. Now we have to get a special permit to take it to get an emissions test without a license and then we have to register the car in his name once it passes the emissions test. Then he will need to get a permit to practice driving and then take classes at a nearby driving school. With both myself and Chris being blind, it is vital we have Alex able to drive.
So that is pretty much how we stand in our family right now.
I would like to welcome a new person to my friend's list. starwalnut. I do not know how you learned about me and friended me but from what I have read so far, you sound like a neat person and I welcome you to my friends list.
