What is this? Medieval torture? Psycholgical battery? Punishment for some forgotten wrong I’ve done to the universe? No? Just a meme? Uh-huh.
Favorites - it’s hard to pick and choose, I suppose. The children analogy really does apply here. Speaking as a mother of three. We’re always supposed to say we can’t pick a favorite because we love them all equally. That’s the party line, right?
Note I said “line” not “truth.” I won’t name names. And the Spawn who tops the Mama’s Darling List of the Day changes from day to day or moment to moment. It all has to do with personality, investment, and what’s been going on the last few days or weeks. So take my list of favorite fics with the same grain of salt. Because you might get a different answer on a different day.
Witness: Personality - Well-rounded, often moody, but with a good sense of humor. Investment -- My first truly novel-length work and the first time that I’ve had such an intimate connection with my readers. It’s also the fic that enticed Ladydeathfaerie into this crazy partnership we’ve developed. What’s been going on -- This fic has come up multiple times during this meme as an example of how I’ve pushed my limits and grown as a writer.
The Mutant Sue Virus: Personality -- Well-rounded, fun-loving, sociable, and ambitious. Investment - One of my biggest projects to date. I’ve poured a lot of effort, and fun into it. And developed mutiple online friendships related to this fic. Not only am I invested in this fic, so are those friends I mentioned. I’m totally blown away by how many spinoffs, sequels, pre-quels and other variations have come from this one fic. With Mutant Sue, the Mary Sue Virus truly went viral. What’s been going on - Even though I’ve been stalled out on this project for a long time, those spinoff fics have just kept on coming, thanks to Dazzledfirestar and Ladydeathfaerie. And like I mentioned earlier in this meme, my current-as-of-this-moment project is another prequel.
Every Breath You Take: Personality: Angsty and moody, possibly self-destructive, but with a certain stubbornness of spirit that gives you hope for better. Investment -- I actually put a lot of thought and effort into this fic. I did research on things like characterization and mind control. I even stretched my meager German skills. I also poured some of my darker thoughts and emotions into this fic. I have to admit that I had some great feedback from a fellow Nightcrawler fan that helped make it all better. What’s been going on -- My beloved Kurt has been popping up in several projects lately. And sometimes I just need a safe place to send my darker impulses. I was tempted to choose a different fic, Shadows of Sin to represent my favorite dark-fic. But that’s one of those Mutant Sue sequels mentioned above.
Those are the top three as of this moment. Ask me on a different day and you might get a totally different line-up. Now don’t ask me about the Spawn. Because there’s no way that’s going to come out good for anyone. They know where I sleep. And they’re mean. Seriously.
