Keep Sharp and Stay Alive

The first rule of being an Immortal is to keep your sword in top condition. Even more so than yourself. If your sword is shoddy, you've very little opportunity to continue to stay alive.
When I first became an Immortal, I was lucky enough to have found a teacher who stressed to me the utmost importance of proper sword upkeep. I learned all of the tricks for minor repairs that I could do myself, including basic blade sharpening.
There is something very calming and almost zen-like about sharpening your blade. Just the knowledge that this seemingly mind numbing work will help to keep your head on your shoulders is enough to keep me doing it.
Of course, keeping your blade sharp and in good condition is not the only thing that allows you to keep your head in a duel. I was also rigorously schooled in the ways of the sword. I died many times at the hands of my teacher, and each was a learning experience I'll not forget.
