Well, my prior entry did NOT do the weekend justice. But I wrote it in a hurry just to get it out and was relying on the photos to speak for themselves.
The water at the lake was . . . what can I say? Gloriously clean and clear and refreshing. The whole day on the lake felt like the relaxing summer day I'd been yearning for, well, all summer. Spending the entire weekend with T-Rex was only diminished by the fact that it had to end. ;___;
This weekend? DISHES! VACUUMING! Oh, and visiting the Jew Crew on Sunday. Monday is a bank holiday but I need to go in because we have an inspection on Tuesday. Grrr
One thing, though, that I did NOT get to talk about was the weekend BEFORE last weekend!
spursgirl79 came to NYC with her wonderful friend SF. I took the day off work Friday and we hired a car because
spursgirl79 wanted to get out of the city. So we went wine tasting on the north fork of Long Island!
spursgirl79 was so excited to find a country station on Sirius FM that we took a picture
Doing her best Vanna White impersonation to show off the car (we requested a compact and got a free upgrade to the tune of five levels to luxury auto!!!)
First stop was a terrible, awful winery called Clovis Point. Beautiful to look at, nevertheless it felt like we'd walked into a frat house bar. The pours were stingy. They didn't rinse out (or in a couple of instances even empty out) the glasses between pours. And we had one person serving two parties and she all but ignored us. Every wine we tasted was terrible. So . . . don't go there!
Pretty winery, terrible wine
Next stop was
Pellgrini Vineyards, where we were treated like royalty. The woman who helped us let us get 6 1oz pours instead of 3 2oz pours so we could taste a wider variety. Once we'd picked what we wanted to try, she marked them in order so we'd get the greatest benefit of flavors (from lightest to heaviest). And she gave us 2 packets of oyster crackers instead of one to cleanse our pallets, because we were a larger group sharing. This might seem trivial, but it's exactly the sort of thing that makes you feel appreciated and allows you to fully experience wine tasting. And btw? Yes, we bought a few bottles.
SF enjoys a glass
and so do I...

Last stop on the wine tour was
Peconic Bay which happens to be one of the oldest vineyards along the north fork. By this point, we were near our limits and forgot to take photos. Whoops! But I'd been to Peconic Bay winery a number of years ago and knew their wines were excellent. Turns out we all wound up making purchases. And I plan to order a shipment of their Lot #4 red blend it was so good.
After the wines, we relaxed by a lake eating sandwiches and chatting about this and that. Then it was a leisurely drive, dinner, and a late night back into Manhattan.
I was glad to make a new friend (SF) and see an old one again. I miss you,
spursgirl79!!!!
Now I must clean my flat and do my best to tolerate the scorching heat that's taken over NYC. I'll be meeting up with The Metamorfesis later for as yet undetermined shenanigans.
Happy Labor Day weekend, flist!
