Well it looks like IGN has a quake 4 review, and I'm actually kind of happy that it wasn't rated great. In my mind id lost it years ago with Quake 3 and has since been unable to redeem themselves. Now don't get me wrong, the games they've been putting out are by no means bad games, but they are not the same 1st tier innovators they once were. I've ( Read more... )

Bungie has been able to implement some fancy new ideas in their games, I will admit, but even then Halo2's gameplay was nothing I would consider "innovative." Indeed, their golden years of the Marathon Series are as past as ID's are. Halo2 was amazing, and one of my favorites, but I can't call it an "innovative" first person shooter. A great one, but not an innovative one.

Though I must admit, the Bungie name on a product is enough to make me look into it.

And a note on Lionhead: Their innovation is their largest calling, but their games do have their flaws. A certain over-simplicity is present in Fable and Black and White 2 in terms of their difficulty. Neither are by any means difficult games to get through. They have made it clear that with some patching this will change, in the case of Black and White, and once they get some improvements out in the form of patches Black and White will really shine. Skirmish, Multiplayer, and a big difficulty boost are all on their way - and there were the only things that I'd say kept Black and White 2 from being one of the best.

Yeah, that's why I made it a point to note "not always the very best" as their games also tend to ship needing a reasonable amount of patching/tweaking. But when it comes to originality there's no one better.

Also about Bungie, they are what I'd consider a great developer but still not one so great that their name alone makes me interested. But if I see a game I'm interested in I certainly perk up that much more if I see the Bungie name on it. It's really no insult to Bungie at all. Loot at it this way I, one of the most fanatic BF fans around here, didn't even list Dice. Because so far I've only seen the BF series out of them. If they decided to put out an RPG I'd be sceptical to say the least.

I guess to clear this up I should rephrase what I said to make it more clear. If I see a game with a name like Bungie on it I will show curiosity and interest. If I see a game with a name like Valve, Blizzard, or Lionhead on it I immediately have some level of wanting to buy it.
