-Dr. Seuss (my personal favorite of his)
Yeah, so some interesting stuff going on of late. Firstly I'm coming home this weekend, and from the sounds of it Alex, Bibs, and I are gonna have a blast Saturday night. I'll probably also be buying Black and White 2 while I'm there which (with the exception of Alex's generosity) I will be unable to play until I get it back here to my desktop.
Secondly and, at least to me, more importantly: I'm starting to reconsider the choices I've made with regards to college. And by reconsider I mean I'm absolutely sure something is gonna change, it's just a matter of what.
It's funny the way things work out and coincidences happen and such. I wanted to show one of my profs an article from PCGamer about how youth violence has more than halved since the introduction of violent video games to the scene. My scanner wasn't working quite right and I was hoping I would have a copy for him instead of just letting him glance at the magazine. So I frequented their website for the first time in months in hopes that at least part of that article would make it to the regular online post. What I discovered was that there was now a PCGamer podcast abound. So I got all the existing ones (6 at the moment) and started listening to them. Well the 5th one had a guest from DePaul University's game design program.
From what I heard I was rather impressed; it seems that many of the game design programs out there may actually be much better than I ever imagined. I had presumed that as they were in their infancy that they would not provide significant benefits over just a computer art program or the like, or that developers would take degrees in it that seriously.
So all that aside several options remain before me. I can transfer to a school that offers such a program, I can start taking online courses while here and over the summer. Another interesting bit comes up from the fact that I have junior standing at the moment. Which means I could conceivably graduate next year if I dropped everything else and focused on courses required by my major. This could then allow me to go to a game design school, hit up a graduate program like Carnegie Mellon's.
So for the moment I'm intimidated and optimistic.
See you guys this weekend.
