Making an animation in GIMP

I am having trouble making an animated .gif. I have Gimp 2.8.

I go to file --> open as layers and open the screenshots I will be using. After I playback what the animation is going to look like, I then go to file --> save as but it will not let me save it as a gif. It tells me to go to file --> export which I do. I switched to GIMP 2.6 which took care of the problem I was having. Someone suggested that I should cap 20 frames per second and the results have been good. I also use 100 milliseconds as my delay between frames. I don't tick the "use delay entered above for all frames" box because 100 milliseconds is the default. Hope this helps!

Seems like you solved the problem! That's good to hear. GIMP 2.8 is still pretty new (I just downloaded it today and am trying to figure out what I can and can't do with layer groups), so switching back to 2.6 was a smart call.

Also, love the GIFs. =D
