[Terry won't ever admit it, but he actually kind of misses the old man and the mutt, not to mention Dana and his family. Having Maxine around helps, but only so long as she isn't throwing herself into danger or being reckless. And frankly, despite the bleakness and constant criminal activity and violence, Gotham seems a lot more attractive while

Besides that, this place isn't all that great, anyway. Maxine was killed, bitten, the most advanced technology here is a surly robot, and her roots are starting to grow back. That, and she hasn't been able to get much sleep thanks to bad dreams involving the thing in that fog.
So, she's just been spending her time either trying to figure out how to get back, planning things with Zuko, or going outside to try and clear her head - which is exactly what she's doing right now.
The forest is nice, and so long as she's far enough from the fog, Max can allow herself to feel comfortable in here. She glances up, and...hm.
Hi, Terry.]
You think that tree has room for one more?

[Swinging down to a lower branch, he reaches down and offers her a hand.]

So, how've you been adjusting?

Okay, I guess.
Never thought I'd actually miss Gotham this much.

[Because yeah, waiting for wave after wave of monsters until the people who brought them here decide to send them back? Max would rather be the one in control of when she's allowed to go home.]

[Terry says it with absolute certainty. It's there, they just haven't found it yet.]
If we don't find it, he will.

They've done a good job so far, but there's no way they could have everything taken care of. It's just a matter of finding a loophole that we can exploit.
[Even the best of the best make mistakes, after all.]

[And in the meantime, Terry will keep investigating.]
How's your leg?
[There's none of the passive aggressiveness of before. Terry's just acting with the concern of a good friend.]

...Thanks, again.

Now I get why the old man made me learn so much first aid for the field.

I wonder what he's even doing, right now. [Probably still looking for Terry. Even if she suddenly vanished, there's no way that the Bruce she and Terry know would stop looking until he was found.]

[Terry knows Bruce, and he wasn't the kind of guy to let something like a heart problem stop him from donning the cape and cowl.]

...I hope everybody else is okay. [Because a Gotham without a Batman is a very, very bad place to be.]

[Naturally Terry doesn't know that, but he has to keep Max's spirits up somehow.]

I've been thinking, though. If they've pulled people from different times, how would that even work?
I mean, think about it - they brought the first Batman here, from when he was really young. Logically, if something like that happened and time kept on going, the future would be completely different. There probably wouldn't be a new Batman, there might not even be a you and me. Something that big happening so early would have drastically altered things, and who knows to what degree?
Except you and I are still here, so something like that wouldn't make any sense. So, maybe time stopped right when we were all taken. Or, there's also a chance that we were brought here, and that created some sort of alternate reality. Like maybe there's a world where Batman is gone, and another where he's still there and doing what he needs to do. That's the only possibility that makes sense to me, but even then, it all seems too weird.
How in the world could they even make this work?
[A brief pause.]
And don't ( ... )
