Drabblefic #5: Remus/Tonks, "For the Sake of the Daughter"

Apr 06, 2009 20:32

I know I owe an update on life and times of, but at the moment it'll mainly consist of how I wiped the entire weekend out by catching the lurgy that's doing the rounds here, and how things are better today but I still feel as though a Pygmy Puff could beat me in an arm wrestle right now. So an early night beckons. Meanwhile, this was finished on ( Read more... )

It's even funnier because I had a meet-the-parents fic for shortly post-HBP planned, too -- I've been wanting to do a DH-compliant update of my old meet-the-parents pair of stories from rt_challenge. (DH-compliant in that Remus doesn't win Andromeda over right away, heh.) I think this may be another one of those must-do R/T moments; there must be some reason why Remus came up with his "disgusted" comment to Harry, even though I think he was probably overstating the case...

Easter, what? *sigh* We do actually have classes off for Good Friday, but I don't teach on Fridays anyway, so it doesn't make much difference. Whereas getting these papers graded will, since they've been hanging over my head for weeks (and I've graded three or four shorter assignments in the meantime. ;) ) The real question is whether I can get a work writing project finished by the end of the week. If I can, I am TAKING THE WEEKEND OFF. (So I guess I'd better stop this procrastination and get back to it, eh?)

And I do hope you've gone to bed by now, but I'm posting this anyway, lol.

You'll be safe from me and any inadvertent mind-crossing from now on as I've only got two more HP drabbles to go (one's yours), and they're guaranteed Andromeda-free. Then it's Chalion time, and I'm also fairly sure she should be absent from those!

It's the choice of Remus' wording and disgusted that always intrigues me in that scene. Not appalled or horrified or even frightened, but disgusted... Allowing for the fact the emotional floodgates have well and truly opened at that point, and things are being exaggerated to a degree, it's still fun to ponder what incident reinforced that word in his head, or planted it there in the first place. As you say, it's a must-do.

*coughs, to remind herself it's a can't-do yet* So I'll rely on you to do it instead.:D

Yes, you CAN! You need this weekend off, and delicious meals out, and relaxing glasses of wine, and much fic writing time... ;)

Ah, but mind-crossing can be fun! Especially since everyone's takes on things are ultimately different. I've mind-crossed with godricgal on "Porridge" a little, as it is... ;)

Ooh, more drabbles coming from you, hooray. I hope I'll have a chance to read Andromeda's tonight. I still have Greyback's to read, too, because he scares me, lol. (That's a compliment to his scribe, of course.)

So my massive pile of grading finally got done this morning! This means maybe this evening I can get caught up on drabbles...and start cooking something up for fandomfusion, too?

Hope you're feeling better.

I did see the Porridge cross, lol. I wonder what the third fanfic coincidence will be? ;)

The usual 'no worries' disclaimer applies. ;) But he scared me in the books - absolutely the terrifying nightmare in the dark for children and adults alike. I would have liked him to get a much nastier, more permanent exit, rather than almost the humour of that crystal ball etc.

*sighs* If I ever meet JKR, I'll be the fangirl from hell with these But why?! questions, lol.

Congrats on getting the marking done, and good luck with the fandomfusion fic. I need some myself, I think I'm changing my mind about the vague idea I had on account of it not progressing from being vague. (But there's no porridge or Andromeda involved, lol.) And, thank you, am feeling so much better today. Bring on the Pygmy Puff!

What's kind of amusing (or sad?) is that I already had this plotbunny before godricgal posted All That's Required. Yes, that does mean I've been sitting on this one (minus the middle-of-war and RIP-Ted aspects) for three years! (Partly because of the mind-cross, in fact.)

But I think I'm doing enough different things with the story that it's going to be okay. (For one, Teddy doesn't actually arrive in this fic.) Still, I've already drafted three or four versions of the author's note and haven't found a way to explain this yet!!

The Pygmy Puff is headed your way, so be on guard, lol. And I can't wait until you get your hands on JKR for a few of those questions.

LOL. Still, you know what they say about the best fanfic things being worth waiting for. And you're light years and many paragraphs ahead of me, who had it in mind to write the R/T wedding right after HBP (and is rather glad she didn't after DH, as she'd have left a lot out), but it's still a plan. Some time.

And I can't wait until you get your hands on JKR for a few of those questions.

There was a competition in a newspaper here a few years back (HBP time) to ask JKR just one question. Oddly, it was aimed at kids, but obviously I briefly considered writing a letter from Gilpindora, aged eleven and three quarters, and wasted much time trying to decide which one to go for. It might be easier to send JKR a list and tell her to pick one as they all drive me nuts from time to time!
