Drabblefic #5: Remus/Tonks, "For the Sake of the Daughter"

Apr 06, 2009 20:32

I know I owe an update on life and times of, but at the moment it'll mainly consist of how I wiped the entire weekend out by catching the lurgy that's doing the rounds here, and how things are better today but I still feel as though a Pygmy Puff could beat me in an arm wrestle right now. So an early night beckons. Meanwhile, this was finished on ( Read more... )

You have my heartfelt sympathies about the lurgy (that is such a great word; we don't use it here) especially because I seem to have got a trans-Atlantic strain of it! I did manage to read your fic, and I loved it, though I'd like to read it again before attempting a review. You know what this does to the brain. ;)

Feel better!

Do you not say 'The dreaded lurgy'? LOL. It does sum it up rather aptly, though I'm sorry if I've sent it over the ocean. I don't usually catch these things, but am blaming the woman I stood behind at the supermarket on Friday, who couldn't speak for coughing. (Though when she did, I swear she told the girl serving her that she had the morbid sore throat. Which seems a bit extreme!) Anyway, there's never a good time to not feel great, but the weekend definitely isn't it. :(

Glad you liked the fic, and feel better yourself. :) There's an interview in my paper today with Keeley Hawes and she mentions Matthew getting offers from America - anything to confess there?!

We don't, and it's just unfortunate! I think I have that woman's morbid sore throat, for sure!

Why yes, I've gotten permission to make Chalion into a movie! ANd I've asked Matthew to be in it. With me as Betriz. ;)

BTW, I read that he's afraid of horses. Will you overlook that?

I'm going to have to be Ista. I get to kiss many good-looking men, and see them with their clothes off under various medical/spiritual pretences. Then I get to ride a horse - it's my dream role.

He might just need some private tuition...

I guess I didn't have to wait long for your take on Andromeda! If only I didn't still have 13 analysis papers to grade (although that's 13 out of 27, so I'm making some progress). This will be my carrot for the evening -- if I get through all of these accursed papers! (I'm never assigning this particular analysis again...it's been a total bear to have to deal with!)

And I'll join mrstater in wishing we had lurgy over here -- the word, that is, since we already have the thing. Unfortunately. I'm sorry you had one of your very own, and I hope a good night's sleep will have you ready to take on Pygmy Puffs again.

Re Andromeda - fics that pass in the night? ;) Funnily enough, I kept yours back as a carrot to read for when I'd done mine, and didn't cotton on to it featuring Andromeda as well until I read it! The good news is we're at very different times for her. I don't know about character thinking... LOL.

And thanks for the good wishes, I'm about to go take my own advice. But I wish you speedy grading - will you get some relaxation time over Easter?

It's even funnier because I had a meet-the-parents fic for shortly post-HBP planned, too -- I've been wanting to do a DH-compliant update of my old meet-the-parents pair of stories from rt_challenge. (DH-compliant in that Remus doesn't win Andromeda over right away, heh.) I think this may be another one of those must-do R/T moments; there must be some reason why Remus came up with his "disgusted" comment to Harry, even though I think he was probably overstating the case ( ... )

You'll be safe from me and any inadvertent mind-crossing from now on as I've only got two more HP drabbles to go (one's yours), and they're guaranteed Andromeda-free. Then it's Chalion time, and I'm also fairly sure she should be absent from those!

It's the choice of Remus' wording and disgusted that always intrigues me in that scene. Not appalled or horrified or even frightened, but disgusted... Allowing for the fact the emotional floodgates have well and truly opened at that point, and things are being exaggerated to a degree, it's still fun to ponder what incident reinforced that word in his head, or planted it there in the first place. As you say, it's a must-do ( ... )

Thank you for mentioning fandomfusion's challenge! We're glad to hear it :D.

Hope to give this a read tonight. Never thought I'd say this considering the writers on my flist, but I haven't read Remus/Tonks in a while . . .

You're welcome for the mention. Had hopes of starting the fic for it this weekend I just threw away, so thank goodness we get a four day one this time.

but I haven't read Remus/Tonks in a while . . .

We'll all have to try and tempt you back. ;)

Oh noes, don't be ill! Rest, and eat chocolate. :D

I'm going to have to read your fic again later tonight, when I have the time to give it the review it deserves.

Feel better!

Am much better today, thanks. I could take on that Pygmy Puff as long as he was very gentle with me, lol.

Have backtracked through LJ posts I missed over the weekend etc and saw the bit about the purple dress being beautiful and sparkly. Yay! Did it look even better on her?

Oh, and I'm glad you're going to end SitN there as, in many ways, the books end there for me! LOL. Which reminds me, I owe you a review. I did read it Friday night and it cheered me up considerably, but forming words into whole sentences and into reviews was way beyond me at that point!

Yay, glad you feel better! No fun being sick, though I'd feel sorry for any Pygmy Puff that'd try to take you on a good day.
o.O

Did it look even better on her?

Well, I thought she looked stunning, but she was convinced otherwise and now we are exercising four days a week. We walked her Great Dane around the neighborhood today!

Oh, and I'm glad you're going to end SitN there as, in many ways, the books end there for me.

I was thinking of a good, clean-break kind of way to end it (that didn't require a silly epilogue XD ), and that's what I thought would work out for the best. I just don't know how to tell the rest of the readers, lol. Good to know it cheered you up, though!
