Happy Birthday to Me: 1st Birthday as a Homeowner

Sep 24, 2022 10:13

Hey people!

As I am writing this entry, I'm sitting at my dining table in my new house, enjoying some me-time at night.

I turned a year older last Sunday and moved into my house with my husband in the same weekend. What a way to celebrate growing older by progressing into a new life stage - owning and managing a home with the man of my life. :)

It has been a whirlwind of events the past few months - running a 3-week long milestone programme; going to Sydney on a work trip; intense packing and coordination of contractors before finally moving in and settling into my house. Things had been 'go go go' for me.

I've lived in this new environment for the past 1 week and I'm enjoying the peace and quiet. With just my husband and me giving each other ample space, I could now take a pause and appreciate my surroundings much better than before. One of my favourite things to do in my house is to look out of the window to admire the buildings, greenery and skyline!

On my birthday, I was actually still cleaning and unpacking my belongings.

Hubby made a dinner reservation at Cafe Aux Bacchanales (Plaza Singapura) so that I could enjoy French-Japanese cuisine. 'We need to celebrate your old age', he said.

I heard about Cafe Aux Bacchanales from other creators who raved about their experience at this restaurant. Being a huge fan of French-Japanese food, I was totally looking forward to it. The first dish we tried was their Onion Soup and we were highly impressed by its amazing flavour. Totally packs a punch!

As Cafe Aux Bacchanales is a merchant on The Entertainer SG app, we had a '1-for-1' offer for their main course.

Hubby had Steak with French Fries and Red Wine Sauce, while I had a Confit de Canard that came with mad delicious fried potatoes. The duck confit was meticulously prepared with the right amount of crispiness in the skin coupled with its soft and tender flesh. Yummeh! The fried potatoes were extremely addictive and I polished every bit on my plate. Damn good. The calories can wait.

I thought that was it, but Hubs insisted that we end our dinner with a dessert.

I chose to try the restaurant's Lemon Tart and HOLY, it was a perfect end to a good dinner. I loved the strong citrus taste of the Lemon Tart. It was not overly sour, and I was practically savouring every piece of my dessert. I highly recommend it if you're having dessert at this restaurant.

On another day, Hubby treated me to Lemuel @ Star Vista, a bean-to-bar cafe that specializes in artisan chocolates.

I had watched an Eatbook video the day before and was totally salivating when I saw their review of Lemuel chocolate tarts. Are they truly the best chocolate tarts ever? This I gotta try!

Hubby is a tart lover as well, so we were happy to go on this little date.

We tried their Signature Yin Tart, which contains 70% single origin chocolate mousse, 70% dark chocolate ganache and shaved chocolate. The chocolate was so tantalizingly rich, and the crust was just the right texture! I was in love!

I hope to try their Pistachio chocolate tart one day when I have the chance!

Speaking of desserts, shout-out to my family for celebrating my birthday with a Creme Maison cake.

I usually have a combined celebration with my 2nd Sister because our birthdays are a week apart. This time, we had little Cyrus (my 2nd Sister's son) joining us in the celebration as he is also a September baby. Our cake looked more elaborate this time because my 2nd Sister is an artisan cake lover, and she would love to enjoy cakes like these before they get replaced by boyish kiddy cakes in the subsequent years. HA HA!

Thank you to my milestone team as well for surprising me and a colleague with a birthday cake each on the last day of our programme. I cropped him out of our photo to protect his identity on my social media, by the way! I know I looked a tad tired and oily in the picture (that's because I was facilitating and emceeing for the whole day). That said, I was definitely happy to celebrate my birthday together with the conclusion of my programme. YAY.

Lastly, thank you to Jessie for showering me with gifts when we were at our media events earlier this month. Love ya! :)

As I approach mid 30s next year, I hope to connect more with my inner self, be less stressed and be more self-assured. I trust that everything I'm going through has a purpose, and that bigger things are actually awaiting me. There will always be a silver lining in a dark cloud in my life. May my dreams come true as I work towards them, and may I enjoy the fruits of my labour.

Happy Birthday to me!
