Fearsome Fun at Singapore Science Centre's Phobia Party

Hey people!

I finally got round to blogging about my visit to Singapore Science Centre in mid April, where I brought my Sis and nephew to attend Phobia Party.

This is an event that combines facing your fears + playing games and it allows you to visit Singapore Science Centre after its usual operating hours. Awesome!

So what are your fears? I have plenty because I'm a total coward. I scream when I see a cockroach and there's a reason why I don't watch horror movies.

The first place that we visited was the exhibition, Phobia2: The Science of Fear. I was expecting it to be like a haunted house or something but THANK GOD, NO.

This is a very cool exhibition to bring your kids so that they can learn about the different types of fears that exist in the world. I'm sure that they can relate to all these fears too.

It takes around 30 to 45 minutes to explore the interactive exhibition and it's very educational not just for children but for adults as well.

There are information boards which provide useful knowledge about the top 10 fears in the world; why people feel fearful and how they tend to react (i.e. fight or flight response). I was totally revisting my Psychology knowledge as I explored the exhibition.

Are you afraid of snakes? The boyfriend is terrified of them.

As for fear of clowns, I guessed there are more people afraid of them now after seeing Pennywise from the movie 'It'.

I didn't dare to enter the dark passage because it was FREAKING pitch black darkness with spikes protruding out of the walls. I didn't even dare to shine my phone light before me in case I see something else.

Good thing there was a bypass door beside it to get to the next room, perfect for people who chicken out at the last minute.

Fear of pirates? NOT ME!

I see pirates and I think of Johnny Depp from Pirates of the Carribean. :D

Claustrophobia much? This is the fear of small spaces, which I don't happen to have.

It was also quite a breeze for me to get through the small hole at the end of the tunnel. I guessed being petite helps.

I am no adrenaline junkie and am afraid of dangerous activities like parachuting or bungee jumping. I don't think I'll ever try them in my life!

I used to be afraid of rollercoasters as well but after getting psychoed by my friends to join them, I'm getting better now.

Exam anxiety for the kids!

I'm so glad I'm out of the schooling system and I no longer need to take exams. :D

Although I was amused to see this exhibit, I know many people who have stage fright and fear of public speaking.

I wouldn't know how to survive in my day job if I have such a fear.

My nephew, Norman was really brave and sporting.

He wanted to try everything he saw, including visiting the booths to participate in experiments or taking funny photos like the one above. It made my 'Aunty duties' much easier.

I've seen so many Instagram photos of Mirror Maze so we took this chance to visit as well.

We were given a stick to aid us in feeling our way around the maze and to prevent us from crashing into the mirrors.

Love this mirror illusion of a bottomless pit.

People with fear of heights - do not look down!

Damn, the Mirror Maze was so gorgeous and Insta-worthy!

I was wary about crashing into mirrors or losing my sense of direction since I can be such a klutz at times so the stick really helped. Another thing that helped was to have someone accompany you through the maze. It can a bit scary to be stuck in a mirror maze all by yourself.

The great thing about Norman was that he has an amazing sense of direction for a kid and was practically zooming through the maze WITHOUT using the stick. Needless to say, he conquered this exhibition with no sweat.

Moving on to the PARTYYYY!!

Fun Activities SG organized a party at the Eco Garden that consisted of stand-up comedy shows, movie screening, lots of carnival games and food stalls. All our tickets had coupons which we could use to try the games or exchange for food.

I saved all the game coupons for Norman to try as many games as possible.

He was such a pro at the Archery and managed to take down majority of the balls. Way to go!

Norman had to fish for ducks (does that even make sense?) and his target was to fish for 5 ducks in 2 minutes.

If he managed to reach his target, he would get tokens which he could accumulate to redeem for prizes. Unfortunately, he only managed to fish for 3 ducks.

This is a memory game that required the players to flip open two cards at a time to find a match.

If the cards do not match, the players would have to turn it back and open another pair. I would usually like such a game except that I didn't want to be crawling around. Ha ha!

In tic tac toe, Norman was required to throw the balls into the bins in a winning sequence.

He totally owned this game with his perfect aiming skills. Good job!

There were several booths that had ring-tossing games so Norman tried them all and managed to earn plenty of tokens.

At the end of the games, he got to redeem for an emoji cushion which he couldn't get enough of; 3 game sets and 2 lollipops. Boy, he was elated!

There were food stalls as well to serve you finger food but you will need to redeem them with your coupons.

We saved our food coupons and went for a Coke Float, which looked way better than the Milo Freeze that Norman was drinking.

We also shared a chilli beef fries and Norman got his favourite cotton candy as well.

In sum, we had an awesome time at Phobia Party checking out its exhibitions, playing games and feasting so thank you Fun Activities SG for having us.
