Rejected!

We went to Yorkshire this weekend, to stay with sartorresartus and xrseyre. On Saturday we went into York. Somehow, I've never been to the famous Castle Museum there.

We met xrseyre for a yummy lunch at a Japanese place - tempura and sushi. Then we separated.

York often has festivals and other events. Last week it was a Viking festival. (York was called Jorvik in Viking times) and there was a "Viking Market", which Dave wanted to see. It was fun - mainly stuff for re-enactors, the sort who take it really seriously.

Then we walked through the "Continental Food Market", another frequent visitor to York. We bought baklava and other yummy middle-eastern desserts.

It started raining hard around then, so we were glad to find a covered route round the back of the Coppergate centre (ah, I remember when it was an archaeological site full of mud with a portacabin...). There we saw reassuring evidence of Spring actually on the way.

We also saw a passing Viking, sheltering from the rain.

So it was twenty past four when we got to the castle. Clifford's Tower looked pretty. You can't really see, but the first daffodils are open on the Motte.

We went to the newer bit - mainly eighteenth century - where the Museum is situated.

And there stood a lady whose entire job was to send people away, because "there were only forty minutes left till closing time and we couldn't possibly see it all at that time." Gah! I could have seen teh textiles section at least. She was adamant, though so, pausing only to but a brolly, to make it stop raining, we retreated, defeated.

Another time, maybe.

Being Human tonight was enjoyable
And a spoiler space for people who were looking at the pictures.

It was a calmer, quieter episode. I loved the destruction of George's mother's boyfriend,(OK, deep PE-teacher issues here, I admit) and the reveal about George's dad was nice - George is so accustomed to paranormals that a more mundane explanation just doesn't occur to him. His face when his big reveal fell flat was a delight. I loved the way in which his dad was written - you could see all sorts of "George" traits in him. Nice performance.

Meanwhile back at the B&B, the policewoman plot did hold quite a bit of suspense - was Herrick going to bite her? Instead, he gave her the scrapbook - which leaves one still not sure how much he knows about himself, and how much he is just a nasty, manipulative creature.

Annie is getting closer to finding out the truth, and Mitchell is getting more desperate. It's all building with a terrible inevitability.

Top Gear ended for the time being on a rather flat note. Jeremy chasing the sun from Land's End to Lowestoft is way less fun if the other boys aren't involved - it's the banter and sabotage that makes it fun.

Back to work tomorrow. I'm starting Hamlet with the Year 9s, which should be fun. Half term is more fun, though.
