So I thought Clone!Lex was just a Kon-El prototype. Now it turns out he actually *is* Kon-El.
I'm pleased about this for a couple of reasons:
The final scene of last week's episodes hinted at that anyway, so it's nice to see that, they've cleared up whether or not he is a Lex clone, or as it turns out something else all together and I have to say rednihilist darling! you called it at the beginning of the season. It may be a re-write, but it's the kind I like so there. The idea that he has Lex's memories isn't a ret-con either since in comic continuity Lex DID try to brainwash Conner into turning him against Clark. This isn't totally out of left field.
Also the idea that Conner's just been created. Lex has known for quite some time that Earth is now open to alien attack. So yes I can see him experimenting with different combinations of his DNA using it as the base maybe? and alien DNA specially Clark and yes I'm still giggling over the fact that Smallville has bought on Clark and Lex's lovechild.I remember that jlvsclrk ( I think that's her handle) wrote a story featuring Lex watching the final battle in Salvation and instructing Emil to look after Clark's body, and I would love it if the show went in that direction. It's looking more and more like (fingers crossed) that this will be our Superman (and sadly) JL movie. If that's the case, then bringing Zod back, along with Darkseid, makes for and epic showdown. If all goes to plan and if Chloe isn't back for the finale, that will be amazing!
As for fears that this will add to the mess the last few episodes are shaping up to be, and take away from Clark's story, well I don't think so. I'd hope not anyway, since Conner is effectively Clark's biological son. And it's very likely he's the only biological child Clark will ever have. And while I don't think that Clark and Lois are thinking of children right now, they will be in the future, and it's going to hurt them that they might not be able to have a biological child. Oh they'll open to adopting, but still.
So yeah I like that Conner's being introduced now. I like that we have Lex coming back as well and I like....well I like these spoilers a hell of a lot actually.
