Yep. Semester is winding down and by winding down I mean heating up. End of the semester is rough enough to make me mix metaphors.
Got up ungodly early today (alarm went off at 5. I got up a little before 6) because I had some stuff to do before my 9:40 class, and I had to be on campus at 8 to check the kiln. My class is firing a low fire glaze load and some of my more delicate pieces are in there. It was easy though, just had to turn the heat up and set the timer. Other people will be coming in periodically to check it as well.
Photo critique today. I want to get in some more pinhole camera pictures before it, but it was rainy and yucky yesterday, and still overcast today. There was a flicker of sunlight for a few seconds earlier, but the sun's hiding again. But even if all I have to show are the 4 prints I've made already, it'll be ok.
Geoff and I are probably driving up together for Thanksgiving in Clarksville. I know I definitely will be and most likely staying through until Sunday. I think Geoff would rather drive back to Knoxville on Friday, but if you're driving up just to drive right back, what's the point?
I applied for a gallery show at 1010 on Monday. They haven't even picked up the applications, so it's not likely that I'll hear back from them about whether I'm approved or not for a few weeks. My idea is an installation of small prints/paintings on wood, about 2x3 inch pieces, hundreds of them tacked on the wall, and a large glass container in the middle. You come in, you leave a dollar, you take a painting. By the end of the opening (with any luck) you'll be left with the paintings that people didn't want to buy. Then the money gets used to fund the next installation along a similar vein. Betsy applied for a show too. Even if we don't do a show together, it'll be nice having someone in a similar boat to help out with mine, and I can help out with hers.
All in all, life is ok right now. I registered for classes for next semester and am taking Papermaking/Bookbinding, Photo 2, Lithography, Monoprint, and ASL 4. I think it'll be good for me next semester to only have one class that's not a studio. Although I have been thinking lately that it would be nice to do a double major in art and sign language interpreting. That means so much more gen eds. Makes the first two years of my college look even more insignificant. If I do every semester including miniterm and summers, I could probably hope to get out in the next couple of years, but who knows. I don't know if I want that much of a load on my shoulders. Thing I learned in college #34: Don't believe them when they say that Undecided is the best major for a freshman and even a sophomore. It's a lie.
