Edmund took a shower and changed his clothes before he headed home. It was the act of a slightly guilty man. He did not want Charlie to see the spills of blood and viscera from dead creatures on his clothes, but Edmund also did not wish to make the long walk home in the heat smelling those things either. He's been trying to keep busy but, honestly, he's spent most of the day watching the door. When he hears Edmund coming, he's out of his seat and on his feet, all but bouncing with nervous energy.

"I was worried," he snaps as soon as Edmund's through the door.
It's uncharacteristically sharp.

Edmund accepted the tone with as much patience as he could muster. In this instance, after seeing the dismal world of Rapture, the dregs of what once was humanity, he can muster a lot. It was a relief to be somewhere comfortable and familiar, even with Charlie sure to be cross with him.

“I appreciate that,” he said sincerely, cautiously glancing at Charlie as he did. “And I stayed in one piece.”

There's a lot of tension in his shoulders and he shrugs them, scrubbing one hand back through his tousled hair. He glares at Edmund for a moment.

"That's not the point, though, is it? You shouldn't have had to worry about being in one fucking piece, Ed."

"Maybe not every day, but that's life, Charlie," Edmund replied, keeping his tone carefully mild. He didn't want to sound patronizing, but sometimes it happened. "Anything could happen around here any day of the week. Why do you think I wear my sword every other day? Worry's part of life."
