My dad has had a heart attack.  The doctors have revised their earlier diagnosis and now say that it was a "moderate" size one.

My dad, as you might guess from knowing me, is not one to ever give up the opportunity for a good punchline.  You see, we have no idea when the heart attack was.

He had managed to contract pneumonia earlier in the year, and it had him pretty laid up for a while -- about two months.  We can only guess that the heart attack occurred somewhere in that period, and the symptoms of the former masked the symptoms of the latter.

He is currently suffering from congestive heart failure.  In order to treat this and improve the blood flow into his heart, he will be going in for surgery on Wednesday morning.  The doctors are -- and I'll admit that I'm not terribly clear about all of the details -- probably going to be inserting a stint, although what they find once they get in might change the procedure.

For those of you expecting to see me at some point this week, I hope you will bear with me if I am not able to make all of my appointments.
