The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

Well, here it is... my inaugural LiveJournal entry. Hopefully the start of a beautiful thing. But if not, well, I can deal with that. But enough of the fluff, I want to get down to the journal itself (especially since I lost the post I just made due to a slip of my fingers).

First, I'd like to talk about roleplaying. Vadania, my "steamroller of justice" Exalted character, went out in a blaze of glory just like she would have wanted to. I know it's old news, but I wanted to mention it because this is all the eulogy that she will ever get. Goodbye, Hero.

This week at work was by far my craziest yet. I worked forty-five hours and a quarter hours in FOUR days. On Thursday, I worked from 5:40 AM to 5:08 PM. This was my last day there, and I put in eleven and a half hours. At least Kent and Mike (my boss and his boss) really liked what I accomplished this term. It feels great to know that they see the value in what I've done. Makes the long days worth it.

School, of course, has been equally crazy so far. Packing took a little longer than I expected, but not by much (total time of about two and a quarter hours). But my computer was only inactive for about four hours, which rocks. Bulletin boards and door tags were supposed to be done last night. But, me being who I am, I did the Kettering thing and stayed up all night trying to think of ideas. I eventually settled on a theme of "find yourself in Unit 33." Each door tag describes what the person's name means, and the bulletin board has a bunch of words on it with tape on the back so they can be moved around and rearranged to make messages and poetry. Not too bad for a non-creative software engineer, eh? And the really cool thing is that I can get a unit event out of the bulletin board by doing a poetry contest with it. I'm very happy with it, I just wish I could've come up with the idea a little sooner. You know, instead of finishing at 10:00 AM when my residents started moving in. This marks the first term that I've eliminated any semblance of a sleep schedule before classes start!

And from the look of my schedule, classes will suck this term. Ah well, at least I've got some cool company up here to help, and more cool company in Rachel, Melanie and Oshyn that have promised to visit at least once this term :-). It's a good thing I have these people, too. Melanie provided the only break I had between work and school, watching Ice Age. It's probably the only thing that preserved my sanity. Even if Denis Leary's character wasn't his typical badass. You can't expect too much of that from a children's cartoon character.
