So, yesterday Audra took me to see the "Wonderful World of Jim Henson" exhibit downtown. I was only told at first to keep the day free...little did I know I would be ambushed with Henson-ee goodness. I did, unfortunately, have a sinus infection(which I'm still slightly fighting off) the whole time, but I didn't let it ruin my fun.
It was amazing...if anyone hasn't had a chance to see it yet, it is WELL worth it. It went into his entire life, from Sam and friends to his commercial stints to his live appearances and experimental films...even his artistic talents outside of puppetry. And, best of all...there were the artifacts. Actual muppets and props used in his shows...of course some were replicas, but there were plenty of the real thing.
I felt like a kid again, plastered in front of the tv on a weekday 7:00 channel 2. And for me to still remember that is quite a feat. This kid did not miss a show. And, of course, I was able to grow up in the first generations of sesame street. Not to mention all the wonderful movies. I was able to grow up right there in the middle of Henson's burning brightest. I got to experience it all. And there it was. Of course, it did make me a little sad to know that such a wonderful, kind-hearted soul is no longer with us. It always still gets me. I guess he was always a little bit of a father-figure to me.
Moral of the story is, Henson=love.
