RESIDENTS OF GRAN FRONTIER: Hibichi Isuto

Jan 26, 2009 00:24

NAME: Hibichi Isuto
AGE: 15
APPEARANCE: A boyish, round face with black hair that spikes into messy bangs. Wears a sleeveless light blue duster, a white t-shirt, and jeans. His wooden kenjitsu bokken is slung over his shoulder in a holder.

DESCRIPTION: A cheerful boy with an enthusiasm for things out of the ordinary, but capable of getting serious when it comes to a fight. A self-professed "Japanese-American weeaboo," his knowledge and passion for Japanese video games and anime is unrivaled, though it's been difficult to accumulate the good stuff considering, you know, his world got trashed. Perverse at times in that very teenage, immature sort of way.

HISTORY: Hibichi's family had long been dedicated to fighting vampires, so when it suddenly became politically incorrect and downright ILLEGAL to do that, there was a great deal of resistance on the part of Hibichi's father, who trained Hibichi that much harder to make sure he'd be ready for the inevitable vampire insurgency. Hibichi, who'd never really seen anything wrong with vampires to BEGIN with aside from that blood thing (and even then, anybody who spent half an hour reading on them would know they never touched human blood as a matter of taboo within their OWN culture), accepted the training, but rebelled by taking an interest in the LEAST athletic, nerdish hobbies possible. (Or so he says. We suspect it's just because he really likes anime babes.)

His relationship with his father took a serious nosedive when he became friends with Nadia "Nekita" Kramer, the twin sister of one of the most public figures of the vampire community. Nekita was a much more blunt example of rebellion against upbringing, turning away from politics and public service to be a punk-loving auto mechanic. Hibichi thought she was the bees knees.

Nobody really knows what caused their world to shatter. Hibichi was shell-shocked for a bit, but finding Nekita relatively quickly helped dampen the blow somewhat. He needed a place to stay, though, and while Nekita looked for a place herself, Hibichi found himself drawn to the advertisements of one spirit medium and part-time supernatural investigator, Nicholas Reeve. With a recommendation from Kaye Osiris and a little bit of highly persistent wheedling, Hibichi convinced Nick to take him in, at least for a little while. He even offered his services as a fighter, since Nick lacked the ability to do so himself. It leads to the question whether or not Hibichi will ever actually LEAVE.

Oddly, his talents diversified after the crossover. Rather than just the subtle suggestion of a great ability, he has found he can shift his sword into various elemental blades, including a light one useful for dealing with unruly spirits and demons. Naturally, Hibichi thinks this is awesome, because he always liked anime heroes and, well, now he got to be one.

He misses his world, but things aren't so bad on a whole for the kid.
