Something few people know about me is that I have a driving phobia. Meaning, driving anywhere is a huge feat for me. I have to plan out my trips, put on music that calms me, repeat self mantras, and take frequent breaks if I start to panic. Driving, to me, feels like being lowered into a shark tank. It turns what could be a very peaceful experience (like diving) into a fear of being eaten alive by hungry preditors. See, if I'm the only one on the road I find it to be one of the most relaxing experiences there is. But the minute I see another car, I fight panic. If it's a large truck, it's all I can do not to run into a tree trying to get away. I guess I'm saying all of this because it's a daily battle that I deal with. I don't usually talk about it. But part of overcoming our fears (apart from facing them) is to talk about them. I get up and make myself face my fear every day, but talking about it is the next step. One day I hope to be able to drive like it's second nature and not let my fear hold me back. If you're comfortable sharing, i'd like for you all to share with me what fears you have or are facing and hotw you're overcoming them.
