this has been a good week.
starting monday afternoon i have been working on my wheellock almost non-stop. well, from 8-5 almost non-stop anyway, lol. i altered the barrel from a straight octagon shape, to what is known as a swamped barrel. what this means is that the barrel is tapered to a point about 3/4 down its length, then flairs back out to the muzzle. this looks much much better than the straight taper, and is also more period for the gun im building. so now im attempting to fit the barrel into the stock blank which is almost in there all the way. tomorow i want to do mainly metal work and spring making because i dont have the tools and means needed to make them. i need a drill and a torch, both of which i dont have in my room... yet! so i have to do that while i still have access to the tools. after i make the springs i can do all the rest of the stock work in my room until class starts. plus i might be able to get an independent study thing going next semester, which means i can come in and use the machines and work benches a few days a week. im finding it kinda difficult to do work in my room. i just cant really work in the same place i sleep. its kinda wierd.
but im really excited and happy with my progress. i've been working on this thing for almost a year, and the end is within sight. it will be done by the end of this year, and will be a fun show-and-tell when i get home.
today was pretty fun. got my barrel almost inletted, we had a monster of a thunder storm; hail, lightning, high winds, huge thunder claps, tree branches falling, and a power outage! lol. this was fun, because the usual cookout we have every thursday to hand out certificates for the classes was canceled. they are fun, but with driving rains and no power we decided against having it. so instead we were all hungry and hanging out in the stairwell drinking trying to figure out what to do and where to eat. then anthony comes on by (the head guy in charge of the summer program) and sees us all with beers in hand, and he honestly didnt care one bit at all, which we all thought was great, lol, alcohol being banned on campus and everything. then a little later another guy from the classes came by trying to get something going on for dinner and mentioned that him and a few other guys were heading out to the micro-brewery (which had power being on the other side of town) for some grub and drinks. well all of us thought that was a great idea and packed up and headed off to the micro-brew. all together there was 10 of us that went, including anthony who got the school to pay for our dinners which added to the greatness of the evening. also there i met up again with my uncle's friend shannon who runs the micro-brew (or at least the dining aspect of it) which was nice, she's fun and i havent seen her for several months. but anyway, we got there and found out that the meal would be on the college, and that drinks would be treated by one of the NRA staff members. so what was even better news to my ears since i didnt have much money with me. i had enough to cover my order, but since i didnt have to fork over any cash i was quite happy.
so we were therem chiling out, BS-ing, ribbing each other, and checking out the cute waitresses. and there were a few that were very cute, too! the guy next to me in our group was saying i should go after this one waitress we coined as pocohantas because of her indian-like apperance and black pig-tails. very cute, but he got surprised when i said she's too young for me. he then asked why and i stated "because she's 15!!" i then told him that she's the owner's (sharon's adopted) daughter and i know the family, lol.
so we hung out, had some great beer (i had a really nice porter, or dark beer), ate some really good food (a big buffalo meat burrito) and listened to some live cool jazz music. and what made it so great is that i didnt have to pay a dime! :D
later we got back to the dorms and found that the power had come back on. so i have to say that this was the best black-out that i ever experienced, lol.
and now im going to bed. its about 10 and im pretty tired. i've had a long day and rather busy week. im out. g'night
