A lot of people are making posts where they hope that 2013 is "another" great year. This is not one of those posts, mainly because 2012 was a horrible year for me and I don't want another one like it. So instead, I'll hope that 2013 is better than 2012. Seeing that my mother, grandmother, and two cousins can't die again, 2013 already has a few things going for it.
I've decided to make some New Year's resolutions for this year and see how I do at keeping them. They're mostly fannish, and most of them are fun, so I think I have a good chance of following through on eight or more of them.
1. Read 25 books. This goal seems pretty easy, and I almost changed it to 50, but best to leave something on the list that I'm almost positive I can achieve.
2. Listen to one Big Finish audio each week (or a total of four per month). This goal is part of my desperate effort to semi-catch up on listening to the audios. I'm nowhere near current, and I skip around fairly randomly. No more than ten re-listens can count toward this goal. Subgoal: Listen to Zagreus. I've been procrastinating on that one for years now.
3. Watch all Doctor Who serials in order starting with the Second Doctor and finishing with the Eighth Doctor. I have to do this before Chicago TARDIS this year. The reason I'm not including the First Doctor material in this goal is because I've already gone through his serials in order. If I do finish everything else and still have time, though, I'll try to go back and re-watch the First era as well.
4. Write at least one complete story/article/poem/whatever every month. I don't have to post all of the work, but I do have to finish it. And I mean writing for fun, not for pay.
5. Teach my cat Jack at least two new tricks that he can perform consistently. Subgoal: Put Jack on a diet, and stick to it.
6. Gain about ten pounds. My weight is fine where it is, but I did unwillingly lose a bit this past year, and some of my clothing fits a little more loosely than I like.
7. Knit three Doctor Who-themed scarves. Last year, I wanted to complete a Torchwood scarf. I couldn't make it work (the Torchwood logo was too wide and didn't look good when I tried to reduce the size), but I might circle around for another attempt. I also want to come up with a design for a "50th anniversary" scarf (no real ideas so far, though) and possibly a Sixth Doctor scarf.
8. See six movies in a theater. In 2012, I saw all of one in a theater (The Hunger Games).
9. Attend two conventions. One will be Chicago TARDIS, of course. The other one is up in the air and depends on location and budget.
10. Pay off at least 20% of the remaining balance on my college loans.
11. Add a new post to my LJ four times a month or more.
