strange but true...

The left side of my scalp is sunburned from commuting to work this week. Owwie. (East and south in the morning, north and west in the afternoon. Yeah, lots of sun.) Last year I got freckles - but only on my left cheek and jawline. Looked pretty funny, but at least it didn't hurt to brush my hair!

Also, on the way home I passed a gas station that was blasting "Dancing Queen" at top volume on the outdoor speakers. Perhaps they were getting into the spirit for PrideFest? I should probably go this year - never been, even though my house is about half a mile from the Strip! The weather will still be uncomfortably hot tonight at the block party, but it's supposed to cool down Sunday for the parade....

I may have done a bit of a stupid this afternoon. *sigh* I've been pestering my supervisor for extra work, since it's been so slow lately. (You might think it's dumb to complain about getting eight hours' wages for three hours' work, but just keeping the chair warm gets boring after a while!) He makes a point of assigning equal amounts of work to each of us (I think it's to set a consistent standard for performance reviews) so I can't just pick up a few extra applications. So today I asked if I could help out the tax audit unit, since they're coming up on a big filing deadline, and I've done similar work before... predictably, the answer was "no". It would break some kind of OPM rule, particularly since the auditors are in a different job class and pay band. *sigh* At that point I was a little frustrated, so... I picked up my current WIP, waved it at him, and said "Look, I've had enough free time here in the past two weeks to knit a third of a sweater. That's just not right!" The result is that I'm learning the data entry software tomorrow so I can cover for the temp girls while they're on vacation. I hope consistently finishing my work early and volunteering for more outweighs the occasional attack of tactless. :P

Oh, and beans-on-toast is quite underwhelming. Somebody said Bush's Vegetarian variety are a decent substitute for the Heinz beans in tomato sauce that are sold in Britain - I hope that's not the case, or I'd be disappointed in the taste buds an entire subcontinent. :P May go to the British import store on May and see if they have the right variety.

weather, random, work
