13 Lessons From Halloween in 2013
1. Tailcoats are very complex to make. Like Sisyphean levels of difficulty with fitting and shaping.
2. Pinstripes are amazingly tricky to match up.
3. However, once it's done, a pinstriped tailcoat looks fantastic.
4. Rolled fondant is a colossal pain in the butt.
5. However, it does make cakes look really awesome.
6. Rainbow cakes look really frickin' nifty.
7. However, if you don't bake them long enough, they fall apart. Note: the toothpick trick does not necessarily mean they're baked long enough.
8. Latex paint-based makeup works really well on everything but the face. When used on the face, it cracks and peels away.
9. When buying wigs, don't bother trying to save money. Just go directly to Lacey's.
10. However, the Spirit stores have gone from incredibly lame to actually really cool, and carry better wigs than the big year-round costume store in NY.
11. DC's official pre-made costume bodices are surprisingly high quality. In fact, their Wonder Woman bodice looks better than that atrocity from the TV series that got cancelled. Which is pretty sad.
12. Apparently, I look good with auburn hair.
13. If you see really cool gloves on Amazon, get them quickly, as they may vanish (luckily, for once I learned this lesson by buying said gloves, rather than waiting and being disappointed).
