Soo...I finished reading "Running with Scissors" during lunch on Tuesday. It was awesome. I highly recommend it. Just a lot of crazy stuff in there that made you unable to put it down. It was also just really easy to read. Tuesday night I saw the movie. I was glad I read the book before seeing it b/c I hate picturing the actors in my head...I like to come up with my own images of the characters in my head. However...I did not really enjoy the movie as much as I think I would have if I hadn't read the book. They left out a ton of stuff which I was expecting when I saw that it was only 90 minuts or so long. I also think the parts that were funny would have been much more funny if I it was my first time experiencing them. I was kind of bored b/c I knew what was going to happen, but there were still some things I liked about it: the fashion, some isolated scenes, the young actor that played Augusten...I also liked Gwenyth Paltrow in it.
Tuesday there was also a big stir up at work because my boss fired one of my co-workers...basically the other main architect there. It was nutso b/c they were friends from an old job and it seemed to come out of nowhere (but not really)...so things are kind of crazy there. She came in on Wednesday to get her stuff and it was all tense and weird when my boss came in. So I dunno...the situation is still kind of panning out. We'll see how it goes...
I got to leave from work early on Wednesday! Yea-yuhhh! However despite getting out about an hour and 15 minutes earlier than usual, I only arrived at my parents a half an hour earlier than usual b/c of the schedule. Oh well, better than nothing and sure beats being at work. The train was packed though! I sat on my duffel bag of dirty laundry, read a magazine, and drank a jack and diet coke. Not too shabby. It just was a little hairy when people were getting on and off at the different stops, but then a ton of people got off at Spuyten Duyvil...so I didn't really have to move out of the way anymore after that.
My mom made shrimp and linguini in tomato sauce which rocked. Then I did a load of laundry and went to my brother's house. We were supposed to play poker with a bunch of his friends, but they all flaked. So we hung out with my sister in-law, chatted, had some margaritas, jumped rope, played with Cooper (their golden retriever), and then...we played...Tony Hawk, the original playstation version...for hours. It was so much fun. I haven't played in so long but it all came back right away.
Thursday we went to my sister Dina's for Thanksgiving. Everything was delicious, and it was good to see all the fam...hadn't seen most of them since my sister's bday back in September. It was kind of weird though b/c it didn't feel like Thanksgiving...it just felt like we were having dinner at my sister's house. I guess I'm just used to my mom cooking at her place for Thanksgiving.
This morning I got up at 5:45...which sucked. My dad's having heart surgery monday so this morning he had to have a procedure where they just kind of poke around and make sure everything's ok before they go in for the real deal. My mom didn't want to go with him alone so I went with her. Listened to Damon McMahon's "Mansions" on they way there. Such a great album...I really need to find something else similar to it because I think I am going to get myself sick of it. I know Damon's writing and recording some new stuff now but I dunno if or when it's going to be coming out. Anyway...once my dad was done with his procedure he had to just chill out and sleep until 2:30 so my mom and I ran some errands. I got some stuff I needed from CVS and she actually got some of Christmas shopping done there (toys for assorted kiddies). Went to a few more stores in this cute little area in NJ...I forget the name of the town. *side note* I find New Jersey to be so strange...it has this certain air about it...all of sudden I know when I am there...it's something about the houses and stores...the architecture...the way everything is arranged...it bugs me out. *end of NJ weirdo rant* We had lunch at some diner which was really good and so f-ing cheap it was ridiculous. Then we went back to pick up my dad, brought him back here, my brother stopped by for a while...had some coffee with him. Now I'm doing some laundry and playing on the internets. I think later my mom and I are going to watch "the Break-up" b/c they are showing it downstairs. Oh! Also today I started reading "Inquieta Compania" (restless company) by Carlos Fuentes which is a book of creepy short stories in Spanish. I'm still on the first one. So far it's pretty good.
