Really?! In THIS Day and Age?!
my heart broke at work today. i was at a school and it was time to have the kids go explore the stations. i always encourage the kids to travel in pairs or groups of threes, especially if there isn't much time, or if there are too many kids. it makes things go faster, i find. anyway, there was this little girl who came up to me and said, "i don't have a partner." at the same time a little japanese boy came up and said that he, too didn't have a partner so i suggested that they pair up!
the girl said, "my dad doesn't like the japanese or brown people." out of the mouths of babes, right?
anyway i told her, trying not to miss a beat, "i think it'll be ok." she said alright and left with the boy.
to her credit, she stayed with that little japanese boy the entire session!
i hate to tell kids not to listen to their parents, and i didn't then, but i really wanted to!
