With This Candle I Shall... Set Your Mother On Fire

Keeping with the animated theme, tonight I watched Tim Burton's Corpse Bride.

Victor Van Dort (Johnny Depp) is arranged to marry complete stranger, Victoria Everglott (Emily Watson). When he botches his vows at the rehearsal he runs off to the woods to practice. However, when he eventually gets them right he mistakenly places the ring on the finger of a corpse thinking it is just another tree branch. Instead, the branch is the Corpse Bride (Helena Bonham Carter) and Victor winds up in the land of the dead. He desperatly tries to get home. However, once he finds out that his beloved wife to be has married someone else to save her family from the poor house, he becomes resigned to his fate, and agrees to marry the Corpse Bride. The man she is being forced to marry is the sinister Lord Barkiss, who is only after Victoria for her money, not knowing that she and her family are now completely broke. When Victor, and the rest of the dead, get to the land of the living a shocking discovery is made which reveals how Emily (the corpse bride) died and who did it as Victor and Victoria are finally able to be together.

This was the first time I saw this movie, and I quite enjoyed it. It's a bit predictable, but it's fun. The musical numbers are funny, and overall, I think they just did a good job with this movie.
