[ RELATIONSHIPS ]

Jul 07, 2010 17:35

Notable relationships that Date has, and some of his thoughts about them in a nutshell. Will be updated as necessary and when I am not being lazy. Redone from the last version again, this time using the profile ganked from here and edited to make things look prettier. Now also split into four different sections on four different posts because of LJ limits. B|

character relationships.

Katakura Koujurou
PARTNERED WEAPON ☇ DEMON NODACHI (BLACK DRAGON)

"I am Katakura Koujurou, of Oshu. My life and blade are sworn to Date Masamune."

Better known as the Right Eye of the Dragon, the ryuu no migime - he is Date's right-hand man, his retainer, the man who served and knew Date Masamune before he ever became Date Masamune. This is the man who Date trusts above all others, and this is the person who Date knows will never turn his back on him no matter what.

Koujurou is important to him - and perhaps now, the most important person to him in his life. After much tribulations and struggling with his feelings, Date finally came to realize the love he had for Koujurou and gathered the courage to confess to him, where then in spite of his thoughts of rejection, his retainer had instead returned the feelings and... well. Nothing has really happened just yet, but at least they're both now slowly moving forward from their old relationship to something closer, deeper - something that holds more meaning than ever for both of them, and maybe something that can either make them or break them without either of them ever realizing it.

It's without a doubt that Date is nervous - he's scared as hell at this new path he's going down now, one that's totally foreign to him (for affairs of the heart have never been something he is familiar with) - but he has Koujurou with him now; Koujurou who's not just his retainer or his Right Eye but now somebody so much more, and Date is confident that as long as Koujurou is with him, they'll make it through whatever that comes. They've managed this long already as master and servant, and now with a stronger, deeper relationship they'll be able to manage even more.

Sanada Genjiro Yukimura
PARTNERED MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL BATTLECRY

"TEN. HA. ZESSOU! Sanada Yukimura, now entering battle!"

HIS *~ETERNAL RIVAL~* except not really. Date looks at Yukimura as something of a reflection of himself - a him that was before losing that part who made him who he is now. While he admits to himself that Yukimura's current way of things isn't going to tide him through much, at the same time he also sees a something else that he doesn't really posses himself - and he believes that its that something which will make the other strong down the road. To that effect, he's taken a somewhat rival/mentor role on the battlefield to sort of guide Yukimura and his young(er) ideals. Though now that they're in Death City without the battlefield between them, things are undeniably going to get a bit more... complicated.

For the most part now Yukimura seems to have gotten hang with living with Death City, which seems to be a pretty good thing. He hasn't gotten around to getting a Weapon partner yet though which is kind of bad, since Date is kind of itching to fight the other once more since they hadn't in a while already. But of course, he can wait until the other is ready - he knows better than to rush things, especially when its something as important and as delicate as this.

Sarutobi Sasuke
WEAPON ☇ DEMON DUAL SHURIKEN

"Yare yare."

Admittedly Date doesn't know Sasuke all that well, aside from the time they worked together in order to take down Oda. Still, he can see that the ninja is sharp and quick-minded, and he can easily see just why he's the one who's pretty much in charge of Yukimura. In a way, he does have to sympathize with Sasuke a little since he has to put up with Yukimura's antics, but he's usually much more amused instead. But that aside, Sasuke has proven himself to be a worthy and highly capable individual in the times they've fought with and against each other, and Date approves of that a whole lot. Too bad he doesn't really find himself working with ninjas, or otherwise Sasuke would be a rather nice addition to his army.

Chosokabe Motochika
PARTNERED MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL LEADER

"I'm the Demon of the Western Seas!"

Ah, Motochika. Date has heard much of him, but being able to meet him in the flesh was a nice treat (that is, once they actually stopped fighting each other). Even if their initial meeting was a little rocky, he's come to appreciate the Demon of Shikoku for the help that he provided to him and his men during their way to Osaka - especially when he aided him against Matsunaga.

In a way, Motochika is a lot like him (obvious eyepatch aside) - Date can easily see that he has his heart in the right place, and he respects him for that. Not to mention the fact that just like him, Motochika also has a rival of his own as well. Date won't say it aloud, but he really does like the other quite a bit and sees a fair bit of himself in the elder warlord. In a way, he does hope to be able to learn from him more should he ever get the chance to. He was also a great help when Date needed it most, and for that he's thankful, too. And on that note, he's also glad that Motochika's managed to find a Weapon partner that suits him as well.

Mori Motonari
MEISTER (★) ☇ CLAIRVOYANCE

"All shall perish under the might of the great sun!"

He's met him alright, and Date pretty much has made his judgement about Mori - without a doubt, Date doesn't like him at all. Right from the get go the man rubs him off the wrong way, and his manner of speech and attitude didn't make things any easier either. The fact that he insulted Koujurou was really something he can't forgive as well and if the treaty meeting afterwards was anything to go by for Date, he's more than sure that Mori is somebody who he loathes quite a lot. He's obnoxious, he's annoying, he's seriously irritating and Date wants to do nothing more than to punch him in the face if he ever gets a proper chance to. He's going to keep an eye on Mori and see what he does, and should he take even one step out of the line Date will be sure to be on him in the next moment.

Kasuga
WEAPON ☇ DEMON NINJATO

"K-Kenshin-sama!"

There's not much about Kasuga that Date can really talk about, since he hasn't really met here formally before. He's heard about her of course, but since he doesn't have ninjas of his own he really doesn't know much other than the fact that she serves Kenshin. Still, he supposes that she much be pretty capable if she's the one who's serving the War God of Echigo - and of course, he'll certainly know better than to look down on her; if anything, he'll be putting his guard up against her when the need should arise. That all aside, he's been told that she is kind of... strange at times, but Date guesses that he'll just see it for himself before deciding upon anything; he's not one to make decisions based on rumours and assumptions.

Maeda Keiji
WEAPON ☇ DEMON ODACHI (KOTOOHAJIME KAKU NO GOTOSHI)

"It's sure hard to find a single flowering bloom of love here."

Keiji... well. To put it into something translatable, if Date is on the cynical side of the scale of idealism versus cynicism, then Keiji himself falls way into the idealist side - something which obviously doesn't get on Date's good books in the slightest. He's never really one to fully believe in something that seems to surreal and unrealistic the way Keiji does, and the other has never rubbed him off well, right from their first meeting (not to mention the things that he said...). Though what with the whole thing with Hideyoshi, Date has come to somewhat understand Keiji a bit better and know where his idealism comes from for the most part - and once he does, he doesn't really have as much of a reason to look down on it. It's Keiji's own way of living after all, and as long as it doesn't interfere with him, then Date isn't going to take any issues and let Keiji do as he pleases. Still keeping an eye on him though, because he's well, Keiji.

Tokugawa Ieyasu
WEAPON ☇ DEMON SPEAR

"I'll unite all of Hi-No-Moto through the power of bonds!"

Sometimes its hard to believe that its this kid of all people who'll come to eventually unify Hi-No-Moto, but the more time he's spent with Ieyasu, the more Date can see now just why exactly Ieyasu would be the one to do it. He hardly knew the Ieyasu in his world, since he was apparently killed off (to his knowledge, of course) - so knowing this Ieyasu had been quite a shock at first. More than just his sudden growth spurt, it was also made clear quickly that Ieyasu had also matured rapidly; compared to the Ieyasu of his own world, this Ieyasu was very different - and not just in his height, either.

When Date was at his lowest, Ieyasu had helped him greatly in regaining his confidence and strength when he needed it most - and Date knows that he owes the other for that. After having sorted out his own issues and feelings, now Date has formed an alliance with Ieyasu since he had nothing to lose in incurring Mitsunari's wrath. He's glad that he got the chance to know Ieyasu better now, and its a bit of a shame he couldn't do it in his own world - but now while he has the chance, Date will do his best to know Ieyasu better here and work with him as much as possible for both of their benefits.

Saika Magoichi
MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL LEADER

"Remember well; this is our spirit, our flame, our pride."

Oh, Saika. Or rather, Sayaka. Date's familiar with her alright, and they've had something of a history together; he met her long before he became the head of Oshu, back before she became the woman she was now. While in some ways she's still the same, in others its more than obvious that something's happened - he's heard news of her spouse's death, but to see such a drastic change in Saika is quite unexpected. It does make Date wonder a little about what might have happened, and in a way he is concerned about her because she is somebody he does appreciate as a comrade and something of a friend - but still, he's not going to pry; if he has to know, he'll know about it one day. Until then, he's just going to chill with her and chat up about stuff and all of that. At least she's still talking to him.

Ishida Mitsunari
WEAPON ☇ DEMON KATANA

"All you will know is my hatred, pain and vengence against Ieyasu."

Annoying, annoying, annoying. There's nothing else Date can use to describe him but annoying. In the first place he has next to no clue on who this guy is, and the way he's going on about that giant monkey Hideyoshi is not helping either since Date isn't that much of a fan of him. To be honest he really doesn't even give a thought about this guy - only really taking notice since he has something against Ieyasu and seems to have something going on with Mori. Date doesn't seem him as dangerous but more of somebody troublesome who he's sure he'll most likely have to deal with in some way or another in the near future - and Date is certain that he isn't going to be pleased about it at all.

Takenaka Hanbei
MEISTER (★) ☇ CLAIRVOYANCE

"I promise I'll be nice to him, so don't worry; I'll be snipping you off right here at Suriagehara."

There's only a few people who Date can never truly forgive, and Takenaka Hanbei just happens to be one of them. There are many things that Date can't forgive about him, from playing dirty to planting a mole in his ranks and putting his lands in jeopardy - but the one thing he can never truly forgive Hanbei for is the fact that he took Koujurou away from him, right under his nose. And not that that, he even taunted Date with that fact by slashing his back; indeed, that is something Date can never find himself forgiving, when somebody does something so low in his book that all of his composure is lost the moment he recalls that memory in his mind.

For Hanbei, Date can never find a stance in the middle for him - to him, Hanbei is one of the lowest, filthiest and dirtiest scum he has ever encountered, and that view is most likely never going to change for a long while. Amongst all the people he's faced in the Toyotomi, its Hanbei who he has the most beef with - not even Hideyoshi himself has that for Date. Should he ever have a chance and reason to, you can be assured that Date will settle his scores with Hanbei in the best way he can deal with. After everything he's done, the bastard certainly deserves it in his book - for taking Koujurou away, and for doing things that no warrior should ever do.

Itsuki
MEISTER (★) ☇ ICY SOUL

"I fight to dream for a world where everyone can laugh together, and where status has no meaning."

For Date, who's lived never truly knowing the love of a family or that of a sibling - views Itsuki as something of a little sister, even though she's really more of one of his subjects to be honest. Still, the circumstances of their meeting had been very different from most, and within her Date sees a girl strong of heart and mind with a fierce determination to boot, even if her naivety is even worse than Yukimura's. But still, it is that naivety that Date wants to protect, because it is what makes Itsuki who she is, and losing that would be a great regret.

With her being one from his lands, Date does feel a great deal of protectiveness over her, especially including the circumstance of their meeting and the things they've been through. Though she is not exactly the same Itsuki he knows back in Hi-No-Moto, there's still no mistaking her pure ideals and wishes and just as he promised the Itsuki of his own world, he'll also do his best to fight for the dreams that this Itsuki wants as well, and makes it a personal vow to protect and aid her while they're in Death City and this world. He's already lost Rin, and he does not want to lose one of his own people like that ever again.
