SO. So. Let's start AT THE BEGINNING.

We should be conscious that Rachel was made aware very very early in the relationship by certain "well-meaning" individuals in ND that Jesse was most likely playing her. She knew that. She liked him anyway. Rachel believes in things like TRUE LOVE and she will fight for her right to believe in things that others might consider naive to the death. She will find love, she WILL be successful, and she WILL have a great life. These things are her goals. Jesse was the rare kind of guy who seemed like he could help her with all three.

Jesse and Rachel were pretty insufferabley adorable when they were together for other people. But Rachel was happy! Really happy. Happy enough to ignore her latent feelings for Finn, and considering the degree that Finn and Rachel are mfeo that's pretty important. Even through Joeygate and his DISAPPEARANCE, she genuinely believed that things would be alright with him because that's ... who Rachel is! And that's who Jesse made himself out to be to her

When it comes down to it, from the time they've spent together in Camp more than any of the time they spent together in canon, Rachel cares for Jesse more strongly than she ever did when they were dating. She wants to try to be a friend to him, even though she's not very good at being a friend. She wants him and Finn to be friends, because she knows how good Finn is for him. And she still has feelings for him. She forgets herself sometimes and it's like they're still dating and then she will remember that they're not. And she's constantly worried despite herself that he's still being false. And she doesn't know what to do about any of it.

But! She doesn't let it make her miserable. Because she's Rachel. She will snuggle with Finn and be glad that she has him, and contemplate on letting Jesse go as something that might have happened, but didn't. But Rachel is selfish, and so she can't quite let go of him.

If someone mentions functional threesome relationships to her we're all finished, ngl.
