Dirt under my finger nails.....

Unlike the stereotypical Southern Lady of a Certain Age, I am not generally inclined to dig around in the dirt encouraging little things to grow. Don't get me wrong, I love a well landscaped and manicured lawn, but not at the risk of my personal manicure. After all, isn't that the reason God created muscular, good looking yard lads??? There is a very strong gardening gene in my family, but it pretty much skipped me. My grandmother could put a dead stick in the ground and have ripe fruit on it the next day. My sister is pretty horticulturally endowed as well. Me, not so much. When the Tallahassee Garden Club informed me that I had been nominated to be President, I told them that I would be proud to do the job as long as they didn't expect me to know anything about horticulture that went beyond flower arranging.

All that being said, I do dearly love to have fresh herbs growing in the yard to use when I cook. This week I was inspired (thank you, selyrabbit, I think), and made the trek---twice!--to the local nursery for herbs. YardLad and TwinkleToes helped me get the big pots, which have been sitting idle since we moved, placed where I wanted them and the rest was up to me. I now have seven containers of herbs which, hopefully, will grow into culinary delights. We'll see. I do not underestimate my ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

At least I've made a start in the right direction.....
