Jumping in here, I'm supporting the strike. It's not just about doing away with the Basic Accounts, which IS a business decision. It's that they didn't announce it, ignored the advice of the Advisory Board-the people who were supposed to prevent these things from happening again-and when called on it, claimed they did away with the Basic Accounts to make it easier for new registrations.
But that's not the most serious thing, either. If you read their content guidelines that were proposed earlier this month, you will see they are very restrictive. Then, LJ eliminated a bunch of the searchable interests.
The ones eliminated included bisexuality, depression, and faeries. So if you were looking for someone to talk to about your depression, you were SOL. LJ has already backed down and added these interests back in.
Anyway, I'm supporting the "strike" to show LJ that its customers are dissatisfied and that we CAN hurt them economically and are organized enough to do it. My posts about LJ are unlocked, so you can look at my journal and find a link to more information.
Thanks for listening!

Hmmmm..... removing Interest searches? That seems kind of... stupid. I will look into this more. Friday is my day off, so honestly, I doubt I would be posting anyway, but I'm still interested in what's going on.

Sure, snag the icon. It is one of several that were made for the strike, by someone(s)

I appreciate your passion, even support your ideals, and am glad you have a place in which to express it.

I am simply saying that in my own journal, nobody can make the Russians listen.
