I got this email. I personally amd not sure how I feel about attending or supporting such a get together, but I felt a need to tell all of you about it. Please feel free to respond because I really don't know how I feel about sucha gathering and whether or not people should be allowed for free assembly, but I feel that it is my obligation to at least pass it on:
URGENT - A READER ASKS FOR HELP
My name is David Tobey.
This is my big S.O.S., my distress flare shot into the collective Jewish sky. We have no other resources but each other. It has been proven repeatedly in the past that if we Jews get together, we can defeat this bullshit.
It happened at Rutgers, when the Jews got together and forced the school to disallow the Palestinian Solidarity Movement from meeting and recruiting on school grounds. I want it to happen everywhere. On February 24, I want it to happen at Pace. What I want is this: I want to fill that hall with as many Pro-Israel Jews as possible. I want to see people in Israeli shirts. Carrying banners. Carrying posters of terrorist victims. I want to see that entire room filled
with Jews proud of Israel. Jews who want to defend Israel. Jews who refuse to be on the defensive any longer. I don't care where you are - bus in. Tell your friends. Ask your family to come. If you're part of any Jewish organization,
tell them. Become a leader, sign people up. Get to Pace NY. Get a taxi. Carpool with friends. Call me. Call your friends. Organize. Anything. If there are TV cameras there, lets get in front of them and show them that we're not going to take this anti-Semitic, anti-Israel shit any longer. If we don't take a stand right now, then we've already lost.
THE WALL: BORDER OF PEACE? will be held on Tuesday, February 24,2004 from 4-7 PM in the 'Multipurpose Room' at Pace University. Pace University is located at: 1 Pace Plaza, New York, NY (Right next to the Brooklyn Bridge, across from city hall).
My cell phone number is: 718-877-4030
My email is: dtobey@optonline.net
Call me. Email me. If I don't pick up, leave a message. No hour is too late.
For those of you who don't know me, I'm a Senior at Pace University in New York City, and I'm President of the Jewish Publishing Association there. I'm reaching out to you tonight for help.
As many of you are aware Israel is under attack on Universities across this entire country, and we're losing this fight. Our Professors preach against it, our campus newspapers write against it and our student body is turning on it. While filled with Jewish students, many schools have no voice that cries out in support of the Jewish state, and when they do muster the courage, there are always those Jews who support the opposite side. It feels as if we are a people apathetic and divided. We are, at least, at Pace University.
Pace University has a large collection of anti-Israel groups and students, mainly Arab or Muslim but with a repugnant sprinkling of Jews, that are becoming increasingly vocal. Over the years they've held symposiums that are virulently anti-Israel and anti-Jewish, but we've buried our heads in the sand. We Jews at Pace thought that if we ignored the problem, it'd go away.
It has not.
Instead, they've tried to top themselves with their anti-Israel rhetoric, and this year it seems they've succeeded. On Tuesday, February the 24th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, the Arab Alliance (a Pace org), alongside 'The Scribe' (the anti-Israel/Arab paper on campus), and the Arab Students United at
NYU, Pace U. Marketing Association, NAACP, Criminal Justice Society, Psychology Club, OMEGA, THINK Environment, The Vanguard Coalition, Campus of Labor and Economic Justice and the Network of Arab American Professionals are sponsoring a conference: THE WALL: BORDER OF PEACE?
The conference slate of guests include the Direct Action
Palestine organization, American Muslims for Jerusalem, Jews against the Occupation and Refuser Solidarity Network among a slate of anti-Israel authors. There are no pro-Israel speakers. When a Jewish professor on our campus suggested one, she was refused. Aside from speaking, they will be screening an odious film that portrays Israeli soldiers as terrorists, shooting at Palestinian Children. I repeat: they will be portraying Jews and Israeli soldiers as child-killers. And it's been said they've invited the media. It makes me want to scream, shout and cry. But we're not going to do that. We're not going to scream, shout and cry: we're going to organize.
My name, again, is David Tobey.
If I am not for myself, WHO WILL BE?
