It was a bookish day at my house.

With the kids out of school for summer vacation, I try to find things to do with them as frequently as possible, mostly out of self defense because otherwise they'll drive me insane. Every couple of weeks we make the trek out to the library, which they seem to enjoy, and not only because the building is air conditioned. (Although that certainly doesn't hurt.) They're delighted at the prospect of being allowed to select their own books, which they can bring home and read and re-read until our next epic library adventure. They've discovered a number of favourites through the library, and hopefully will continue to do so. For the most part, I let the older two run loose in the middle grade section to pick for themselves what they want to read, although occasionally Mom does step in with a suggestion or two. (Today, for example, my oldest picked out two books that were well below her reading level. I told her that was ok, she could borrow those, but she also had to pick something more challenging. Ironically, the more challenging book is the one she's been reading all day, not the first two she originally picked out.) I read picture books with the little one as long as her attention span will allow, and after one quick stop in the sci-fi/fantasy section, we're ready to head back home with the shiny new treasures.

Today, though, we discovered the library is currently holding its annual used book sale. Used book sale. What sane person could resist? Certainly not I!

And, of course, there were a few goodies for my younger readers, who also can't resist a good book sale.

At one point I must have taken too long browsing the books, because while the youngest had fallen asleep in her stroller (it was naptime), the older two had settled themselves under the tables holding the books and were quietly reading, much to the amusement of the other book browsers. They looked so cozy I was kind of tempted to join them, but somehow I suspect it's not as cute on me.

We were relatively restrained in our book sale-ing. No promises as to our behaviour next time we hit the library, though.
