Now that we have about twenty reviews under our collective belts, I figured I should probably fill people in on the mighty rating system. I'm sure everyone is just burning with curiosity. How do our warped little minds come up with the numbers to describe how many pints of blood a book is worth? Well, I really can't answer for Sarah, but I suppose I could reveal my own secrets. Just as long as it stays between you and me, alright? Cuz, y'know, this place is such a private, secret place and all.
1 pint - This is a book to avoid. Major plot flaws, awkward writing styles, and annoying characters likely abound. At 1 pint, there is much eye-rolling and I frequently have to set the book down in disgust. Generally, the only reason I actually finish a book like this is so I can rant about it here and warn people away from the horrors within.
2 pints - A book with major flaws, but not entirely unsalvageable. 2 pints doesn't necessarily mean I disliked the book, but there were enough problems that readers may want to tread carefully.
3 pints - This is middle of the road. This will be the biggest category, simply because it's average. "Meh" books will wind up here, and basically anything I feel is an ok read but not really much to write home about.
4 pints - A good, enjoyable read. There may be some minor nit-picky things I'll poke at, but not enough to detract from my enjoyment. I recommend anything at 4 points and above.
5 pints - Anything by Tanya Huff. No, I kid. (Or do I?) 5 pints is actually really rare. It's something that absolutely blows my mind, that gets me so excited it fires up my imagination. (You can set your minds at ease, though, I promise not to start writing fanfic and forcing it on people.) 5 pints is something inspiring.
And that's my system! I do use half pints to give myself a little more flexibility, but those should be pretty self-explanatory now that you have the key to my rating system.
Mmm, pints of blood.
