Are you 18 or over? Bingo!

Canon: Yu Yu Hakusho
Character: Botan
Timeline: Episode 56, before 57. It's the final round of the Dark Tournament, when no one actually knows Kurama survived his final attack on Karasu.
Personality:
Bubbly, ditzy, and nothing like a grim reaper should be; that's the impression that a few characters in the series had. She's nosy, noisy, and a scaredy-cat at the strangest of times. To a certain level, that is true. Botan is typically a half-glass full type of girl, trying to keep an cautiously optimistic and direct outlook. Even when it had come to the grim (up to a certain point,) she would hold on to the positive side of things, or hold on to the fact that things can still turn out well. Being so fresh out of training as a grim reaper, she's had more experience with referring to the books than having been toned down by the experiences of guiding numerous amounts of souls to Reikai in the few years before the series started.

It wasn't until Yusuke's case came along that her personality had started to develop further. Having regarded human souls as subjects, and his an interesting one, Botan developed a bond while watching Yusuke go through the ordeal to get his body back. Rarely did she spend so much time with a human, so in noticing the different sides of Yusuke that wasn't in her book, she grew attached. She found herself sticking up for Yusuke when an inspector came to determine whether or not people wanted him back. Botan turned into someone that was willing to do whatever possible to help Yusuke get his body back, even possessing Keiko's mother so she would get to Yusuke's body in time to connect his soul and body again. Throughout the ordeal, she had actually grown attached to those in his life as well, having had watched and observed the closest people in his life. So the willingness to assist and defend had extended to more people as they had come into her scene. Of course, this seems to make her incredibly involved with her friends' lives, peeking in and seeing how everything develops. Sometimes it gets to the point where, without thinking, she blabs out things that are supposed to be kept secret. For example, it took Hiei threatening her to constantly stop her from letting slip that Hiei was Yukina's lost brother.

That attachment is actually what made her very human in personality, despite her actual position. Which was why recently, she had come to understand loss and why knowing that everyone has their time to die isn't a comfort. Sensing Genkai's energy disappearing, marking her death, put Botan through a severe period of grief. Between that and having to take her soul to Reikai, a fear of losing more friends pitted deep in her stomach. At the point she's taken from the canon, it's left Botan still raw from the experience that her typical optimism isn't enough to beat down the realization that she may have to take another friend to Reikai.

Background:
Not too many particulars about Botan's past are given from before the show begins. Just that she hadn't been a Reaper long before Yusuke's case had begun and that it could be assumed that she's relatively young for her kind because of this. During training she was one of the higher ranking students, with how, in Poltergeist Report, one of her peers from back then said that Botan was one to look up to and was the one to rely on back then.

As the series begins Botan is the first one to show up and confirm that Yusuke was a ghost, by saying 'Bingo!' After going through his request to make sure the boy he had saved was all right, and pointing out that the child would have had less injuries if Yusuke hadn't interfered he was ready to be taken off to 'wherever spirits go.' Unfortunately, because Yusuke had done something that wasn't expected, she was there to give the news that Reikai had no place for him. Of course that wasn't the only thing she had to share! Because of the unusual circumstances, she was there to also inform him of an opportunity to get his life back. Thing was, he declined it rather quickly. Suggesting that Yusuke takes time to think it over, Botan tags around and watches as he watches his funeral, and the effect his death had on everyone.

Finally accepting the opportunity, Botan brought him to meet Koenma and begin the ordeals necessary to bring him back to life. First; Stop his cremation! In order to manage this, Botan taught Yusuke how to drop into people's dreams to relay messages and communicate with them, and later how to possess people for a limited amount of time. The second thing to do (though presented at the same time,) was to take care of a golden egg, that would hatch a spirit beast which reflected Yusuke's true self after feeding off of the positive and negative energy he gave. During this time, an inspector shows up to see if the people around Yusuke actually wanted him around. While going to the closest people in his life, Botan is there to give a rundown on each person and how they helped to keep his body safe. Essentially defending the fact that they wanted him back, partially wanting this for Yusuke herself now. When it comes time for Yusuke's spirit and body to synchronize and link together again, and no one is around or nearby, Botan hurries to the hospital to possess Keiko's mother so she would get there in time. Which she did!

From this point, Botan is appointed Yusuke's assistant, and given a physical body. First thing she had to do was (originally in disguise) set Yusuke up and prove to him that he was qualified to be a Spirit Detective. Then again, it was a mandatory thing, coming with a case almost immediately. As an assistant, Botan has provided information on cases, passing on and teaching him how to use Detective items (like the communicator and demon compass,) and actively helps out. In the first official case she pretends to be a group of humans (by faking different voices,) to chase off Goki, and save Yusuke's ass. Later in the case, when Hiei cuts Keiko with a sword that turns things into demons, Botan puts her all into healing the girl and giving Yusuke (and Kurama) the time needed to defeat Hiei and get the cure. In the next case, after bribing Yusuke to take part in Genkai's tournament, she later shows up for moral support for he and Kuwabara.

The following case gave Botan a more active role as assistant. As the Four Saint Beasts released a swarm of Makai insects, which were taking possession of humans, Botan was both working to destroy and disinfect the humans and getting Yusuke and Kuwabara to a portal that would lead them to Makai. With those two, Hiei and Kurama in Makai to stop the Saint Beasts to cease the swarm, Botan worked to beat the insects back and try to control the rate of infection. Unfortunately, with a new wave, the best she was able to manage was some form of containment. Soon she was even protecting Keiko, thanks to Suzaku ordering all of the infected humans to kill her! Luckily with her and Keiko's smarts, they managed to survive long enough for Yusuke to defeat Suzaku and destroy the whistle that was controlling the Makai insects. The next mission, where they were to rescue an koorime (ice maiden,) named Yukina from a black market dealer named Tarukane. Though Botan doesn't do too much past navigating part of the forest and mountain area before the mansion Yukina's held in, the end of the mission has them meeting the Toguro brothers that invite the Rei Tantei (Yusuke, Kurama, Hiei and Kuwabara,) to fight in the Dark Tournament that happens three months later.

The Dark Tournament, now that was quite the event and the Rei Tantei had no choice but to go. Which meant Koenma had to be there as owner of the team. Botan was in the same situation too, by proxy, except some very persuasive girls (Keiko and Kuwabara's sister, Shizuru,) insisted on tagging along. Most of what Botan did during the tournament was moral support; cheering the boys on and staying with the girls. There were the times when she'd take action as the team's trainer, but it was before the final round that Botan had to resume her Grim Reaper duty for one person in particular.

There was a couple of days between the semi-final and final rounds, during which the younger Toguro brother and Genkai met up. Though at the hotel, Botan remained quiet and was able to sense the moment when Genkai's life energy had completely extinguished. In-between the grief and mourning she carried out her duty in taking Genkai to the Reikai, after visiting Shizuru. Returning to the hotel, Botan remained quiet until the Final Round, with the first match between Karasu and Kurama. It's after watching Kurama getting blown up in various places on his body, where she says that she doesn't want to carry another friend to Reikai and he sends what seems to be the last of his energy into a final attack that Botan is taking from. She doesn't know that he's survived, or that Genkai is brought back to life after the Tournament.

Abilities/Additional Notes:
Healing: Early in the series, Botan is shown to use her own spiritual energy to mildly heal another. It's demonstrated the ability to slow and partially reverse effects of afflictions connected to 'evil' energy. In the series, it slowed down and slightly reversed Keiko from turning into a demon. However, it's something that was a rapid drain on her energy, and she was never able to actually cure Keiko of the demonification. She is shown to be capable of healing injuries later in the series, so it's best to assume that if she's given the training she'd be useful as a healer later on.

Telepathy: Though very surface-based, Botan is able to pick up on some mental thoughts as well as send telepathic messages to others in the immediate area. The range seems to be limited to those that would be close enough to see with her eyes. (I'll have a permissions post about this.) Those with a guarded mind would easily be able to keep her out from those surface thoughts.

Spiritual Awareness: As a spiritual being, Botan is sensitive to the changes in energy. She's able to recognize specific people's energy signatures, the difference in types of energy and the general strength of it. It's let her know when someone's energy has gotten weak, if there's another signature mixed in, and when someone's energy has completely dropped off. The last of which would indicate death.

Manifestation: Not exactly held in some pocket space, or summoned from elsewhere, Botan is able to manifest an oar into her hand. She takes her own energy in order to create the object, thus the manifestation. This can be done in both physical and spirit form, as it's been used as a weapon/bludgeoning item for penalty of particular comments. Sometimes, she's seen doing the same with a metal bat, though not as often.

Flight Able to manifest an oar, Botan is able to sit on this (similar to a broom) and use it to fly for a faster method of travel. It's also possible to take on another passenger, though unrecommended as they tend to be holding onto the paddle of the oar.

Spirit: Botan was never originally in a physical body. Though allowed one later by Koenma, she's inherently a spiritual being and able to switch from one state to the other. Though she can be seen by spiritually aware (In Adstring, she'll be seen no matter the spiritual sensitivity. The only way to really notice that she's in spirit form is that, unless warded, she can go through solid objects. Otherwise I can understand if this would be taken away completely in Adstringendum) While in spirit form, she's able to do what ghosts can do, such as:
Dream Dropping While a person is asleep, they are most attuned to the spirit world. It is in this time that a spirit is able to make contact for communication. The contact they make to the physical body can be reflected and felt in the sleeping person. Those that are more spiritually aware may be able to project more than sensation, such as the two in a space in the dream world for more interactive communication. (Adstring limit: Only works if the spirit ability is allowed. Otherwise ignore the Dream Dropping ability. Otherwise, naturally requires permission from other player.)
Possession For a short and temporary amount of time, Botan can take possession of another body. There are several rules, however. One is that she must know the person. They must be unconscious. At the longest, possession can only last until the person regains consciousness. How long this takes cannot be altered. She would only be capable of what the person is, and not her own abilities as well. She must be in spirit form near the unconscious body in order to possess it. Adstring limit: Only works if the spirit ability is allowed. Otherwise ignore the Possession ability. While something she can do back home, thus noted, I'm going to assume that this power is not even around unless there's a relevant event (like making her personality more mischievous,) or something planned out with someone. I don't actually see it coming up either way. IF it does, it will have a 10 minute to half hour limit at most. It will require permission from the other person to be possessed and how it will be handled will be discussed. Unless something is done with personalities in an event, I doubt she'll actually do this now that she has her own physical form to turn to.

Grim Reaper: While not an ability, it should be important to note that Botan is a 'grim reaper'. More appropriate, she's a pilot of the River Styx, to gather souls and take them to Reikai for judgement. It wasn't until Yusuke's case that she became involved as an assistant to him and Koenma. Though given a birthday in the series, she's considered a spiritual being that was put through the training to become a grim reaper. She wasn't a human beforehand, and while in physical form gives off a 'confusing' aura. Demons aren't even sure what to make of what Botan is, based off of scent and energy, as her kind generally don't get physical forms. Part of the training, as observed between the series and one of the movies, is both physical and educational. She has stamina and strength enough to stand her own and protect others against other non-human creatures, and has insight as to how Reikai and Makai work. As part of the training, she's also gotten the proper training to be a personal trainer, which had come up in the Dark Tournament.

[When the PCD clicks on, there's an upward angle on a teenaged girl, about 14 or 15, with blue hair up in a ponytail and pink eyes. She doesn't seem to notice this, or anything at all at the moment. For a few moments she's standing there and staring off to the distance with apprehension and worry. When the change in scenery starts to sink in, she looks around rather confused.]

Where- What's this?

[Picks up the PCD after noticing it. She's still looking around, obviously stuck on the fact that this isn't right.]

I don't know where this is, but- Kurama!

[By the jostling and changing background, she's taken to running. It isn't until half a minute that she realizes that the device is on. It's hard to tell what the expression is meant to be; anxiety, relief, astonishment... Probably all and more.]

Oh, Kurama are you there? Are you getting this?

[And now the background behind Botan is changing to a gradually higher view.]

Sample RP:
Now that the initial shock had worn off, Botan was off flying above the city on her oar. There were some very nice people that had told her about the city, and that they were all stuck in this world. Well, she'd just have to see that for herself! Looking below, pink eyes scanned across the buildings in disrepair, not that the rest of the city was faring much better.

"How horrible," she said while hovering in place. There was no doubt that the city had suffered some sort of disaster that resulted in flooding. It almost made Botan more determined to get back to Reikai, and tell Koenma of this place. Perhaps he could even open up a portal for them all, and if not to their original realms then to someplace cleaner at least. Circling the oar around, the young reaper tried to figure out the right direction. She couldn't sense Reikai or the River Styx. While not necessary, it was always nice to be heading in the right direction when getting to a different realm. Releasing a breath in defeat, Botan started flying off with increasing speed and heights.

Only to reach a point where getting higher was far too uncomfortable, and still no River Styx. "Oh, foo...

"I suppose I could always look around beyond the city," she resigned. Until something large and blue flew by rather quickly. Watching it go by, the girl put the oar in a 180 and made way back to the heart of the city. "Or maybe not! Right then."
