After I got home from Phoenix I went to my dental surgeon for a consult and he said that I'll need an implant. BUT! Since the implant will be in the maxilla (upper jaw bone), certain precaution had to be taken. He took a really cool (and hella expensive!!) 3D X-ray of my face and found that my maxilla was too thin to support the implant screw. A successful implant usually requires a screw length of 10-12 mm. My jaw bone only had about 7 mm..I think. Anywho, the point was that I didn't have enough jawbone to support the screw.
Now, here comes the funky part.
The doctor said I'll need to do a bone graft; but, this wasn't your traditional shave-a-piece-of -bone-and-put-it-in-the-area-in-need-of-bone bone graft. It's stem cell bone grafting. Pretty cool huh? That meant that he will aspirate bone marrow, which is rich with stem cells, from my hip bone and inject it into my maxillary sinus to support the implant. This was where the panic came in!!!! You're gonna stick a needle into my hip bone and take out marrow?! That's gotta hurt!! OMGWTFBBQ PLEASE KNOCK ME OUT WHEN YOU DO THAT O.O!!
I went in for the surgery on Monday. Luckily, they knocked me out for the entire procedure. Before falling asleep I remember my doctor pricking me three times on my arm trying to get my vein for the IV -.-;;;;;;; When I woke up I felt high.
I'm to be on a liquid diet for a week until I see the doctor for a follow-up. I hate being on a diet. Rice porridge, yogurt, ice cream, Jell-O, soup. UGH! I want a hamburger, damn it. I've lost weight. I weighed myself this morning. I was 113 down to 110. What. the. fuck. I'm a stick. -.-;; I'm a relatively small girl, so 3 pounds present a pretty significant change in my body appearance.
That's okay. Linda's last day of school is Friday and we're going to Vegas in two weeks for her much-deserved break. I will pig out and gain the weight back. :D!!!!!!
