When the news came that one of Henry's colleagues was going to retire, his first thought was "I guess I'll have to say goodbye to him", not about the party it would give. Henry wasn't fond of parties, and parties with colleagues - they never seemed to want to talk about work outside work - weren't much better. When professor Celestin herself had asked if Henry would be present ('and won't you take that lovely wife of yours with you?') that he knew that there was no way out.
He had protested softly, managing Rebecca's state, but professor Celestin was a mother herself and fired off so many questions that Henry knew there was no exit to be found there either.
So he had
hired a suit, tried not to think about what a waste of his Thursday night this was going to be, had given up on trying to reason with Rebecca (it got to a few screams) and was just here now, waiting for her to get out of the bed room. He was wise enough to not tell her that they'd run late soon.
