I was going to blog about something else, but instead, I offer the following: Updated google satellite imagery for much of the state. I'm especially thrilled they have as much rural and back-country coverage at the resolution they do. Whereas Kotlik was somewhat blobby before, it's now actually recognizable as something other than a few greyish pixels. Fairbanks' coverage actually reflects current conditions, instead of what was there ca. 1980, especially out towards Goldstream and Murphy's Dome (Coverage for downtown and the Base's end of things was never really crummy). Sadly, Ft. Yukon's coverage is still sub-par. That kinda bummed me out.

Here's some samples of the new and improved sat imagery:

Bethel, Alaska.

Kotlik, Alaska.

Goldstream, "Fairbanks," Alaska.

Nuiqsut, Alaska.

What's the coolest thing you can find on the new pictures?

alaska, intraweb
