A miscellany

1) This past week has been pretty busy -- it's one of our busiest times of year at work, and my Japanese class is coming into finals time, and this weekend was the Boston Highland Ball which means my parents are visiting and we've been jaunting off dancing the past couple of nights. Mostly great fun! But this is why I've barely been around for the past several days.

Mom and Dad are sticking around for another day, and then picking up Brother #2 on his return from New Zealand, and either driving him home or staying with us for another night depending on their tiredness levels. (Brother's tiredness levels can be reliably assumed to be "jetlagged all to hell and gone," given that he's flying in from, uh, New Zealand.) It's always great to visit with them, and yesterday I dragged them off to Haymarket and some of the Freedom Trail bits, so it's been the fun kind of busy.

That said, I'll be glad when next weekend comes. No guests! Japanese studying still to do, but we can run errands! I'm still kind of bemused that this is a thing I find exciting nowadays. Oh, adulthood.

2) Many towns in Boston, including mine, are under boil water orders for probably at least a week. Exciting! And not so bad, really, when one has an electric kettle, but moderately annoying. I fully expect all local stores to be sold out of bottled water by, oh, earlier today.

Dishes are the most annoying thing. Luckily, my housemates did some poking around on the internet and discovered that putting some bleach (1/8 cup per gallon, I think?) in the dishwasher or washing water should sanitize it, so there's that at least. If we couldn't do dishes for a week except in pre-boiled water, it would get very tiresome. (My first world problems, I know.)

3) Sandry is playing Rock Band. This is hilarious, because it means soprano warbling is drifting down the stairs, contextless because only her voice carries sufficiently. (It also carries down through the air vents straight down into the basement, as if it were deliberately piped. Entertaining!)

4) Oh, why not. Everybody's doing this meme, and it's fun!
