Still poignant and lovely.

Thanks kindly,
I discovered last night, that maybe, the experience of paring down a story, rather than try to create every little detail, might have begun to leak into longer fics. I was trying to write a new one last night, and can recall thinking to myself, "you're talking too much."

Quite fascinating, really. We'll see how this develops, but I'm actually feeling hopeful about it.

Oh very nice. Bleak and heartbreaking, but very nice. (I hope that makes sense!)

Hi,

nice is a great compliment, bleak and heartbreaking is even better. Buffy never got to be a happy bunny very often, and it's got to be a hard one to deal with; that the two men who made you happiest, for however brief a time, had to die; and be responsible for the deaths of countless thousands, for you to have those moments.

I like how Buffy doesn't connect with any of her charges, but then again her mission isn't to be their friend. It's to keep them alive.

Yes,

she's having to become a whole new breed of Slayer, just a couple of steps ahead of those who will have to follow her.

Generally, Generals don't get to be friends to those who follow them. She got to be friends with the scoobies, but she can't afford that luxury anymore. If anyone is going to fill that role it'll be Faith, or maybe Vi, Rona etc.

Thanks,
