well, it has been almost a year since i posted an entry here. it feels so strange to sum up the events of a year in a few sentances, but the necessity of brevity amuses me for some reason, so here goes.
in dec of last year i went to toronto with my then-boyfriend to meet his family over christmastime. we got stuck in DC for a day and saw the white house! i tried my hand a managing a hostel in northern scotland (if you can call fort william northern), and went snowboarding in romania. i visited london for the fourth time and decided that i actually like the city. in the summertime i went hiking in sourthern turkey for a month, lost my passport and was stuck there for two weeks longer than i wanted to be! i had to take a train through bulgaria and serbia to reach croatia, only to find that the friends i went there to meet were all scattering the next day. italy, then another month in northern scotland, and then i came home with a broken heart. i have been back for about two months now and once again, i can't wait to leave.
i guess i did cut most of my ties before i left last time, supposing that i would not be back here for much longer, but now it is biting me in the ass, as i can count on one hand the number of people i have been hanging out with. don't get me wrong - i like them just fine, but trying to reconnect with some other people has proven difficult. and of course my innate laziness has prevented me from even trying to get a job while i languish here. it's not that victoria is a bad place. far from it! i have told countless people of how downtown is basically coffe-shop, sushi restaurant, coffe-shop, sushi restaurant, ad nasuem. not to forget the microbreweries and summer festivals! but, oh.
so i will most likely be booking myself a one-way flight to mexico in december (people are visiting me this month, either on their way back to OZ or just for a visit, so i have to wait a bit longer!) so that i can spend the winter learning how to surf. i could just wait and go to australia with some friends in february, but it doesn't seem like the time is quite right for that. my visa for the UK doesn't run out until next may, so i feel like i ought to go back there, but i'm not sure that feels right either. i suppose i'll have to wait and see.
