Disclaimer: Not mine, just playing. Challenge found in 30_kisses so in part, dedicated to this community, of which this author is NOT a member, but found the challenge very interesting.

More Notes:
(madsciencechick writes fics of this nature, so she too is an inspiration, and from whom I got the idea of following 30_kisses.) I couldn’t join the challenge because of time considerations, since work is sometimes tough, and well, I wasn’t sure I could honor the commitment, and knowing that, couldn’t make the commitment.

Moreover, from the little I've read, people take pairings and well, this pairing is already taken. I didn’t feel like taking another, unless I get hit by further inspiration)
Made to challenge my skills and practice my writing. So you, gentle reader, will please bear with whatever errors.

The actual fic is about 700+ words. So it’s a very short piece.
And I do believe that Practice makes perfect....
I do need the practice... a lot of the author people do such great jobs I merely practice. *Sigh* Anyway, I hope it amuses someone.

Yuuri was a child of modern technology. He was used to technology. And his mom, Jennifer, as she called herself, had always taught him that practice makes perfect. But Yuuri would forget what he wanted when it was time to go to the other world.

Yuuri wanted to tell Conrad about his feelings. That it was more than this warm affectionate fuzzy relationship. That it was a sort of needy physical thing. The problem was, he didn’t quite know what to say, and worse he was a simple guy. So he figured he would listen to himself and see how it sounded, he would be able to choose the most appropriate method. But he was in ShinMakoku with no cassette player- so how would he be able to hear himself?

He thought Anissina might be able to help him and told her about cassette recorders and how sound came out of them…. Unknown to Yuuri, Murata Ken, clever person that he was, had actually once described such to her, and had told her the importance of miniaturization and not to reveal to Yuuri what he and she had created, which was a miniature version ,,, much like an i-pod, whereas Yuuri was describing an old style radio/cassette. So Anissina had something for Yuuri in short order, and another smaller version for Murata Ken, which was much more sophisticated. She called it the Um-Heart-Talks-Kun.

So Yuuri set about practicing.

Yuuri cleared his throat, and pressed the red button that Anissina told him was Record..

“Ah Conrad, now that everything’s in order, I want to tell you that you mean a lot to me…… When I thought I had lost you, I thought I hurt all over…. And I couldn’t, wouldn’t want your arm to be used to coerce the humans whom you loved as well, even if you choose …”

He abruptly hit stop. And listened, “Too wordy,” was his comment, "ah, that's no good."

Then he hit rewind. Cleared his throat again, and hit record once again.

“Conrad. I wish we could be closer. Discover things together. Explore our bodies.”

Thud. Rewind. Play.

“Ew. I sound like an idiot. What would Murata Ken say if he could hear this. Probably laugh his head off. I’m glad he’s busy elsewhere, supervising a few things.”

By now the sequence of steps had become a ritual of sorts.

“Conrad. I love you. I want to be with you. You are my past, my present, and my tomorrow….”

Stop. Rewind. Play.

“Hmmm, that sounds better. At least it’s direct, and honest, and ….”

A noise in the background alerted Yuuri. He hurriedly pressed Rewind to go to the beginning, pressed record, and pretended to be practicing a speech.

Finally a knock sounds, so Yuuri halted the recorder and assumed a complaining stance to whoever would be arriving. It was indeed Murata Ken. Yuuri was very glad that he had erased whatever he had practiced.

Murata Ken was not alone, following behind him was Anissina and both were trailed by a puzzled-looking Conrad. Murata Ken and Anissima hurried towards the recorder, whereas Conrad merely looked at them, and said “Heika, Geika told me that you wanted me here?”

“What? No. I was merely practicing…. Er my speech?"

“Speech, Heika? For what?”

Yuuri noticed the other two extracting something from the recorder ..

“What are you doing? I am using that piece of equipment….”

“Oh don’t worry we’re getting something. You can still use your recorder.”

Yuuri snatched the recorder, hit rewind, and pressed play… and Conrad heard a few remarks of a standard opening speech, except he didn’t know of any upcoming speech.

Murata Ken and Anissima finally got their device working as Yuuri’s taped voice petered out… and as the words said by Yuuri in his first try filled the now empty air, Yuuri’s face started turning fiery red, and since the small i-podlike device recorded even his comments, Yuuri turned even redder and redder as he tried to form words, but all he could issue out of his mouth was a sputtering mess….an indecipherable mess of sounds.

Conrad’s face, on the other hand, was a study as the small device amplified Yuuri’s voice. His expression changed from pleasant surprise to a soft and warm expression until he heard "at least it’s direct, and honest.." whereupon Murata Ken hit something and the amplified voice stopped.

Before Conrad could put in a word, Murata Ken remarked, with a smug expression on his face, "Ah Yuuri, and you were so wary of holding hands before." After which he turned to whisper something to Anissina, and all they heard was "Yozak". Then, Murata Ken grabbed Anissina and left post-haste.

Conrad was left alone in the room, looking at Yuuri very tenderly, and opened his arms. Seeing the warm invitation, Yuuri entered the circle.

No more is heard from the room.

In the meantime, Yozak can be seen giddily listening to the i-pod, looking admiringly at three things in their turn, the device, Murata Ken, and the mischievous Anissina... and the mischievous looks in their eyes did not exactly bode well for the secrecy of the Maou's new relationship.
