Just so things don't seem all gloom and doom...
Yesterday I went to Keel and Curley winery for our yearly case of wine. (I like having a case of wine for Christmas presents and random gifts. It keeps well and isn't a nicknack that will just sit and collect dust) We've done a lot of the Florida wineries and like Keel and Curley the best because they're not hugely expensive and the wine is good. A lot of local wineries grow the grapes here in Florida, and the only grape that does okay here is the muscadine. Keel and Curley imports their bases from Napa valley and then infuses them with local fruit. They also have a blueberry farm that they make three kinds of blueberry wine from. They were really crowded so we didn't do the winery tour, but we did the tasting and decided on the wine.
This year they had icewine, which is new. Our friends the Rancourts who came along with us told us that they have had very expensive $100 a bottle icewine and liked the $12 a bottle Keel and Curley stuff better.
Plus they treated us to BD's Mongolian BBQ, which is an absolute treat for Uriel and I. The only Mongolian BBQ place near me has closed and the only other alternative is in tourist central and has gotten a ton of bad reviews. So having nice Mongolian and nice adult conversation was a real treat and something I deeply needed to relax and unwind.
We also enjoyed a video with the Rancourts. A really cool interpretation of Handel's Messiah that focuses on the suicide of a man, the events that drove him to it, and the aftermath of of as the family copes. It's set in modern times and has really amazing visuals. Minimal, but they use color, symbolism, and light to a bleeding edge perfection.
I present the video in full here. And if anyone reading this knows ASL, I would be interested to know what the woman is signing.
