My aunt Gabrielle passed away last night.
After surviving lung cancer, she had been diagnosed with liver cancer two months ago, and took a plane back to her native New Zeland in order to receive the free health care that the state offers.
The chemo had failed. She had been scheduled to come home in two days to live out the rest of her life the best as she could.
Mom is devastated, if only because she held out our hereditary gift of never being able to give up hope.
She had loaned me the luggage so I could go see Christof, taught me how to cook a turkey, and gave me the recipie for roast chicken that Misa always raves about.
And I held her the day 7 months ago when she realized her husband wasn't going to survive the week.
After her husband George had died, she had decided to go back to work in order to keep her self busy. Her trade?
Selling funeral plots.
Irony has never ceased to chase me.
Dear dear dear aunt Gabi. I sure did love you.
And hell, I just might go to Mass again for the first time in ages.
Life is funny.
